Thinking about this since I saw it yesterday, a little bit confused about the scientist drifting.

    Spoiler: show
What effects had the scientist drifting with the Kaiju for the alien race? Could they only access the memories that we saw flash or had they access to all his experiences?

As its a hivemind, does that mean that every Kaiju (are the Kaiju and the master alien race linked neurally as well?) and Alien race person saw the scientist's memories?

What was the Kaiju hoping to accomplish by tracking the scientist in the safe hold? It just seemed like a game of tag.

The fact that the Kaiju could track the scientist makes me wonder if they could be 'linked' even though they are no longer neurally connected via the machines?

...or is it just a movie and I shouldnt think about it?

I think they saw more than the flashes we saw but they kept them secret to build suspense.

I think every alien did see the scientist's memories.

I have no idea why they were tracking him.

Although yeah I didn't think very hard about all of this for this movie

I figured they knew that he knew the "secret" so they were out to kill him.

They tried to kill him because he knew he was on to something that would let them beat the Kaiju, and he was. The second time he drifted he figured it out, and the rest is movie history.

    Makes sense. But,
    Spoiler: show
assuming the alien race is still alive. Does that mean hes still connected with the hivemind or was that just temporarily while he was drifting?

Iirc, he was chased outside and into the bunker as if the Kaiju saw him and was after him. Then kaiju breaks in and it confirms they're after him. Hopefully I'm not remembering that wrong because if I'm not then it means it was a one off thing and doesn't have to worry about being on the Kaiju hit list.

I dunno, I think it's cause he still had some type of connection that they could track. Remember, his eye turned all freaky after he drifted.

I thought his eye was just blood vessels popping from the pressure. Same reason the nosebleeds happened.

Yea I thought it was overload cause the brain couldn't handle it. Pretty sure we saw similar side effects from the flashbacks of solo jeager pilots.

They are telepathic - is it so hard to believe that they could have created a link due to the drift? A one-way street.

I dunno, the thing for me was that only one eye was like that and Hannibal seemed to stare at that eye when he realized he had drifted.

That's because he knew he drifted before he told him, because he did it himself. Remember his own eye?

He did? I thought he lost his eye when he used a public shelter once, no?

When Charlie drifted the first time, it created that temporary neural link to the alien world and he learned things about them the aliens didn't want humans learning. Even before he figured out how the rift worked, he learned that they were an organized army bent on conquest, not just some random attacking monsters. That knowledge alone was enough to alter the way the human defenses thought of their enemy. The Kaiju went after Charlie because they knew he knew too much and didn't want to risk him finding out more.

The bloody eye thing was just him showing the physical strain of the Drift, as humans couldn't really survive drifting with Kaiju minds so the first time Charlie tried it he almost died. When Ron Pearlman saw the bloody eye, he instantly recognized that Charlie tried to drift with the Kaiju because, as shown by his own bloody filled eye, he tried drifting with them as well. I doubt the link was still active between the Kaiju and Charlie once he left the machine, but I guess that part is still sort of debatable since the Kaiju did manage to find him easily.

Yea he found him easily, but we can brush that aside as quick story telling to make things simple. It didnt matter whether the Kaiju found him or not Tbh, the story would not have changed at all. Kinda weird they added that to begin with now that we discuss it actually.

Just saw it (me and one other person at the showing). One niggle I had - am I going deaf or did people mumble a lot, or talk too fast, or have the music drown out the words? I swear I missed loads of words being spoken because of that.

You're theaters sound must suck, the sound was just as enjoyable as the action for me.
