Thank the Lord Bentertainment ain't like some other websites like kotaku and shit. They're already complaining why they aren't using weapons instead of 'robots' and how the use of the voice actress will ruin the game's 'legacy.' Looks generic, animu, evangelion, too hollywood, blah blah blah. Fucking neckbeards. I trust GDT to deliver.

It's like we're really on /m/! Besides, the Evangelions aren't even fucking robots, it's more like Jet Alone if you had to insist on pushing the Eva angle; fucking plebs.

Somewhat of a tangent, but Kotobukiya is going to be making model kits of the Jaegers (and probably the Kaiju); I assume it'll be timed around the movie's release window. They should be good in terms of quality (though I still think Bandai is better). Then again, most people would probably just prefer toys or something; but from what I gathered out of December's Dengeki Hobby the kits should be relatively simple and straightforward with whatever weaponry unique to each Jager.

When the first trailer for Pacific Rim hit a lot of us thought the voice of the robot sounded very familiar. It looks like many of our readers were right, because Guillermo del Toro confirmed that the voice of the robot is GLaDOS from the video game Portal.

Del Toro is a big fan of the game, and he hired Ellen McLain, the actor that provides the voice of GLaDOS in the game, to do the same exact voice in the movie as well. According to Forbes the director even had her voice run through nearly the exact same alteration process as in Portal, so they would sound exactly alike.

This is a pretty cool shoutout to the fans. It's not new news that McLain was cast in the film, but no one knew that she would be hired to do her GLaDOS voice in the film until we all heard it in the trailer. It seems like fans love it! Del Toro is such an awesome geek. Do you like that GLaDOS will in a way be in the film, or do you think it will be distracting? Because the guy at Forbes says it will be distracting...

No, it’s doubtful the film is actually calling her GLaDOS as that would be a definite overstep, but that voice is so iconic, it almost seems like an overreach to use it. As a fan of both Del Toro and Portal, I’m not so sure about the move. This goes beyond “homage” to the point where it might be a bit distracting for the film if we’re constantly associating the voice with another iconic character every time it utters a word. It’s like if they threw Kratos in Wrath of the Titans, or something similarly out of the blue.

If they can explain why its more effective to build something to punch stuff instead of shoot a nuke into its mouth I'll watch it. Surely there is a reason. Saw the trailer before hobbit at the fork and dine so maybe it explained it while I was ordering a drink.

He's paying a homage to Kaiju films from the 60s, 70s, such as Godzilla, Jet Jaguar, and so on. He also answers your question here @ around the 2 min. mark:

I'd bet that he's the only one that could've directed something like this w/ so much care and detail. He's very passionate about his films and the monster genre.

I'm thinking that "Nuke a monster destroying a city" would destroy the city anyway, making it a pointless exercise.
