Rule #1 of Tier 3 VNMs is that no amount of increased kill speed is worth wasting the extreme pain in the ass involved in getting a Tier 3 abyssite by dying when you don't have to. Play defensive.
Krabkatoa is totally straight-forward but Mega Scissors is still pretty significant at 99. It's extremely unlikely to kill you outright, but it rules out soloing for most setups thanks to Venom Shower, which isn't anywhere near as deadly as it was at 75 but still can't really be countered unless you're MNK or /MNK and can easily kill you if Mega Scissors leaves you with 2-300 HP.
Basically, provided you have some sort of mage healing, /MNK is way better in my experience than /NIN, but you want to be sure to get some kind of TH down because I've seen the odd 0-drop on shells even with TH2.
Tier 2s are soloable (and you would be a good friend to solo them, frankly). Capricornus is probably the easiest Tier 2 in the game; Yacumama is more significant but your PLD should have no problems. Just Phalanx and turtle up. Still, be sure to check if anybody's doing trials before you start hunting; they'll be happy to let you pop (they do not want blue abyssite, after all), and you might even find a potential blue seller.
I was thinking of Brigandish Blade and having to steal the dagger. Always way more successful at stealing the dagger at 1% than at 90%~ or so when the fight starts. Admittedly, this was after five or so minutes had passed.
-edit-
Other wiki agrees.
Not sure if it's been answered (just skimmed through and saw nothing)
but, shout has a range. You could be at the MH entrance and not see someone shouting by the limbus/signet NPC, and what you're seeing is people who are sitting by the guidestone/moving galka responding to that shout you didn't see.
As for the blacklist question, I'm inclined to say no, but I can't say that with 100% certainty.
It's more then that. It seems a little buggy sometimes. Like I've park all 3 of my characters next to each other and gotta different amounts of shouts with none of them on my blist. It's really weird.
I seem to remember it being accepted wisdom back in the day that relative level influenced steal success rate. I assume that was debunked?
It's still accepted as common wisdom that doing controlled tests of a JA with a 5 minute recast that requires you find another (necessarily different) target is balls.
Here is how Steal works:
* You have a base Steal rate that depends on the difference between some stat (invisible or not) of yours and some stat of the monster's.
** This stat may simply be level.
* Steal+ gear adds to this rate somehow.
We know that some monsters have a relatively high Steal rate, while others (like Dynamis monsters) always had a pretty low Steal rate. So it isn't just some constant. Any further factors (monster HP%, direction the monster is facing, whether you're invisible or not, your INT, your DEX, your AGI, your CHR, your Level, or your Hit Rate to name a few of the ones I've heard) has been verified about as well as eyeballing a 5 minute JA verifies anything. If anyone has data that could make the model more specific, please share it. If you don't have data but believe it anyway, then I guess I'm glad you can still maintain faith in the absence of evidence.
Speaking of steal in dynamis, is it even still possible? Over probably 60~ tries in the last few weeks, I have not had success with it, at all.
I thought there was testing awhile back on feint? Oh well always seemed to help for me and the timer on feint is fun now. And yeah you can steal in dynamis it's just crappy rates.
With no proof, and the discussion page says
I put it in the same bag as crafting directions."User's HP" vs. the enemy's HP
hey, was wondering if it was possible that steal success rate is affected by mobs hp vs hp, to explain, if you have 50% hp, and the mob has 100%, will sucess of steal be worse? and maybe the other way around works better, cause it does seem to increase sucess when mob has low hp, did some testing, not formal, but from the looks of it so far, having low hp is getting me 0% sucesses. Darkzide
Damn it, turn off* stupid phone
...of course they didn't test it.
Oh well.

Thanks! I'll give it a try later tonight.
While the Sobek discussion earlier is semi irrelevant, I'd like to mention I started farming Sobek today and did Briareus over the last 4 days. As stated, Briareus was simple. Once colossal slam hit I'd just switch to eva/movement gear and kite for minute.
I got in 6 Sobeks and it favored Heavy Bellow and Tyrant Tusk. With RR/SS/Apoc and 5/6 merit abyssite and 12/12 hp merits I hover around 3350hp in my tp set. I don't think I dipped below 2k hp once. Between all fights, I think it used Blizzaga 4 four times? Once I saw the message in the log I'd pause for a few seconds and then cast cure 6. Only once I had an issue and that was it used Aweful Eye and before Stona went off it used Sleepga 2 on my Whm. Was a bit of a pain but I managed.
Thanks again for the tips to just use whm/thf and nin/war. It's working out wonderfully.
I got a lot of ki's from gold Pyxis that I won't be using. How much could I sell Hadhayosh and Briareus pops for? And how much is a reasonable amount to pay for epona's ring if I can find a popper?
Instead of making numerous posts, I have some random questions.
1) How do you get the KI from NNI exactly? My understanding was if you hit floor 80 you get it and this KI entitles you to choose any 1 piece of gear?
2) Is other wiki not getting updated at all with new info? I use both bg wiki and other as I see both has benefits, but for anything new I feel I'm wasting my time going there.
3) Updated inside/outside Blade:Hi sets? If someone could link their ffxiah.com set or give me a 1st/2nd/3rd for options that would be awesome!
4) Is Twilight Helm/Body even worth going after anymore?
You get it by killing the boss of that floor.
The split to Gamerescape pretty much killed both versions of the oldwiki.2) Is other wiki not getting updated at all with new info? I use both bg wiki and other as I see both has benefits, but for anything new I feel I'm wasting my time going there.
