Edit: Question of my own; wtf do SMN merits now? Avatar M.Acc/M.Atk for Cat1 then max a single BP in Cat2 and one in all the others? (Also why does everyone use Shiva for dmg?)

Almost, Macc merits are pretty useless because avatars hardly get resisted, either the new Summoning Magic Casting thingerthing, or Physcial Acc. Physical Attack does next to nothing.

Usually Heavenly Strike 5/5 everything else 1/5.

Is there any particular reason for Heavenly Strike though? I was under the impression all Celestial Avatars had the same stats.

I spent about 20mil on my last 0.4 skill (108->108.4). You can get to 102 fairly cheaply, and 106 for more gil if you're smart and patient. Going higher than that is guaranteed to be about 500k loss per synth (assuming you can even sell the stuff you make).

I'm doing Thunderstorm and Wind Blade, Rocl. I'd rather be able to keep Ramuh out for Shock Squall.

Ice usually being better than water, but they're all more or less the same, the TP bonus stopped being as useful with gear/mana cede/what have you.

I'd assume Beyond to be the reason why a lot of people say Heavenly Strike no? I've yet to convert to Byrth's SMN Utopia so not sure!

ok some serious help here. Already had the game installed, removed it not with the windows included program, but with clean uninstall via Advanced System Care from cnet. I just trust it a whole lot more. Then installed it via steam.

Now I get this gem:

Any help is appreciated, and if you need a clearer pic I can provide. Just tried sizing it down for everyone's benefit. The skinny of it: Playonline says its not installed, and it is. Listed in my currently installed programs. Btw, Windower won't hook either. And did a clean install of Windower 3.431.

All modifications to the settings of the game described in this guide will be done with a program called Regedit. To access this program, click on Start > Run, type "regedit" and click "OK". The configuration for FFXI is stored in the following registry key:

If you are running a 64 bit operating system, the configuration is located here:

"xx" denotes the regional version. PlayOnline for JP clients, PlayOnlineUS for US clients and PlayOnlineEU for EU clients.

This will be similar - after the PlayOnlinexx, instead of selecting SquareEnix, select "InstallFolder", make sure that value "0001" in the name column points to the actual FFXI install directory.

My installfolder 0001 is "C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\", which is the folder will all the ROM/ folders in it. I imagine at some point that registry entry was not rewritten correctly and is pointing to a wrong location.

Edit: The steam install folder is probaly somewhere around ...\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\FFXI\SquareEnix\FFXI

It installed EU playonline, AND I had US playonline as well. Was launching EU version, which of course did not have FFXI in it.

Why the fuck did I not check the registry? You'd think I would.....(I really hate to admit I'm MCSA/MCSE certified...)

I've heard some people say every piece(but body) can drop off of either route, other people say it each path drops 1-2 certain slots. What's the final word on abj drops?

It can drop from Morta or Bismarck for sure. I know I've seen hands off Tier 1 monsters, but I can't swear I've seen legs.
