I run Sanguine Scythe, Razed Ruins and Apocalypse full-time. If you are tanking something, you should have a WHM and thus not need regen atmas.

Not using Apoc is a horrible mistake. SS Apoc RR is the superior combination for DDing; if you really prefer GH, then sub out SS.

Seconding Kyte here, switch to Sanguine Scythe, Razed Ruins, & Apocalypse; you'll be impressed with the results especially if you have Smite. I stopped using GH long ago and have never looked back.

As far as I'm aware the only restriction for the skill up equipments that I have heard about is that the Magic Skill up earring would not work with Summoning Magic. Other than that I believe the skill up equips work as intended provided you are of the level to equip them. As for the food question it was once explained to me that the gear ups the rate you skill up while the food ups the range of each skill up so if that random person wasn't full of it then yes I believe the food and the skill up gear should stack. If you would like more details I believe there is a thread around here somewhere that pertains to testing and discussion of increased skill up ranges and rates, granted I haven't perused that thread since curiosity about skill ups hasn't struck me yet. (Below 10 posts so I can't hyperlink ^^; )

I'm in the middle of getting roaring laughter. It's a bitch to get but I think it's going to be worth it in the end when I pair it with gnarled horn and cloak and dagger/mounted champion. This is for soloing/low man tanking though. Seconding the other responses for dd.

Razed ruins, SS, Apoc or go home. Gnarled horn instead of SS is the only other acceptable replacement.

Returning player, have a couple of questions. I'm sitting on enough to create a relic or take a empy to 99, thinking of ragnarok for a WAR. Is this the best/most relevant relic to create to get me back into higher end event content, or should I go with an ukon or something else? I'm able/willing to level and gear any job.

Can someone post or put me in the right direction when it comes to pdt/mdt/eva gearsets for nin? Having trouble wading through all the info( I tried search for all these questions but they are pretty hard to find, buried in threads, unless I fail at using search properly.)

Also, is there a point in gearing a taru for tanking at all with gimped hp/vit? It's been some time since I played seriously, my main was an elvaan nin and pld but I had to reactivate with a taru mule...wondering if its worth it to take tanking seriously on taru or if I should stick with dd/mage. Thanks.

No Victory Smite, not planning to make Vere but will be using Ascetic once I get around to doing old NI floor 100 to force drop with my disk.

Generally speaking you would want to cap pearl for sure. To get the actual chests to drop which may contain your sash you'd want amber. I found my sash in a worm pt where i had 255 amber but it's possible that having a lower amount of amber may serve you better since there is a sweet spot where you won't get KIs in chests but you'll also get decent augmented items in chests, unfortunately I haven't gold boxed farm too seriously to know what that sweet spot number would be for amber.

Leave your azure at 128. That's the minimum for consistant top tier quality but will not eat as badly into your gold chest quantity. As far as ambers go, you have two options: 255 or 120. 255 will net you the best rate of gold chests but the big golds will have a chance to contain KIs and they also cannot hold multiple aug'd items in the same chest. 120 will not yield consistant big golds (so better chances at aug'd items) but will also not be as good of a ratio for seeing gold chests. I personally go with 255 because I end up using the KIs anyways and I don't notice much difference between 120 and 255 in the end anyways.
