I haven't seen it yet, but the reviews in my local paper, which is conservative as fuck (central Virginia), said it was good.

What I learned about the future from Elysium: Mexicans overpopulate the Earth and make it awful.

Forreals, great movie. The tech is jaw-dropping and a good story. Only gripe was Jodie Foster's awful accent.

I had high hopes after reading y'alls reactions and it still exceeded them. I loved it.

Big bad was great, all the tech was cool as shit, solid story.

Better than what I initially believed it would be like. Anything with Kruger in it was awesome.

Kruger was an insane beast, one of the most bad-ass villains in a movie. I was worried that his "flesh wound" was the end of him and his part was done. Nope, he's a bearded machine.

It was a cool film. Stylized. Blomkamp does a good job at grounding you in these evolved environments. Its just the themes about immigration and cliches were just hitting you over the head. If you let your brain pass that off, then its an enjoyable film.

Just got back, awesome film. Blomkamp really has a great way of making scifi tech very believable.

If they ever did a Macross/Robotech movie, I want him.

I really enjoyed it, of this summer's post apocalyptic earth movies (after earth lol, oblivion) it was far the best to me, I liked Oblivion but this one was not just the best of the three, but one of my favorites of the year. Story was believable, and didn't do anything so stupid it breaks immersion in the movie, like punching giant monsters for an hour then remembering you have a sword...

Movie sucked, sorry to break it to you. This movie looks pretty, but that's about it. Terrible writing, a plot so filled with holes that you've lost track by the end. Spider is one of the worst written and acted characters I've seen in a long while. Not to mention every time Jodie Foster talks you want to burst out laughing because her accent is so ridiculous. I will say that Damon gives a decent performance, considering what he's working with. If you see this, just ignore the plot, empty your mind and enjoy the visuals. Otherwise you'll feel like you've wasted your money.

The movie was too preachy. They kept hammering the OMG ROMNEY PEEPS HEALTH CARE! Bleh, just blow some shit up.

This. Saw it yesterday. Cliche military villain who likes his job too much. Cliche American style commander who thinks her way is the only way and everyone else is wrong. Cliche rich CEO with a king's complex. Cliche computer hacker who thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I just felt like the writer was more interested in getting his political message across than actually trying to make a good movie.

Going into it I decided not to see any of the political agendas set in the plot, and just enjoyed it as an action movie, that is what made it fun for me, you can read into the motivation of the writer/director in any movie and over analyze it to the point of it disagreeing with your values, I chose not to, and made it a good movie.

If I didn't pay for the film, I'm sure I wouldn't have either.

eh? so if it's your dollar you have to agree with the director's motivations/values?

I'm not arguing that its the best movie or even a good or great movie, but I enjoyed it and I think people are reading too much into the supposed politics, there isn't a 15 minute monologue about human rights and health care in between Damon blowing peoples heads up.

I'm saying as a consumer I am more inclined to judge the product I'm buying/time I'm reserving is all.

Also before it gets addressed, I decided to watch the movie on a whim.

Aside from some sciencey issues I enjoyed the movie. And I like Jodie Foster playing the bad guy. She plays a cunt very well

I just found your opinion interesting, because normally I can't stand movies/tv that beat you over the head with their agenda/politics (example: I can't fucking stand the Newsroom).

I didn't see Elysium as that type of movie though. Sure, the framework of the movie deals with immigration/elitism/healthcare/whatever, but it didn't stick out to me as an annoyance that was constantly being stressed.
