Make sure you use the same server when testing the speed.

BTW you should check to see if you can get upgrade to FIOS quantum... It should be double your speed for free. I was able to get 50/25 from 25/25 before:

The server should be roughly the same, but I don't understand why I jumped from 42 wireless to 1.8 wireless. There was this weird period where I was bouncing between 0.66 and 42 mbps, but now my internet speed is just shit. I also noticed that when the download was fast that speedtest.net would lag on the "connecting" part. I looked into Quantum and it's ~10$ more, so I may do that.

Edit: Rebooted using admin settings and that seemed to fox the speed.

    Edit2: Randomly dropped speed again.

Where did you find an option to upgrade free without changing the contract?

I just did it the same way, went to verizon.net and chose the upgrade option, and it offered me the speed choices, by default it offered me 70/35, but you can actually select the same speed tier. The price ended up the same for me.

I think the price may be ~+$10 for an upgrade, but we'll see when I find the online ID/PW.

That said, I think I found the problems:
    - On my old man's laptop, the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 advertises as having N radio capability, but it appears that the internet does not work when I set my router to Wireless-N ONRY (My laptop is fine with this setting). I also notice that 802.11n [Enable/Disable] is a setting, but that wireless mode only shows b/n. I'm guessing that Intel is getting by with some sort of technicality where the card has some Wireless-N radio function, but not of the variety I want.
    - The Logitech wireless headset I use is creating MASSIVE interference with the internet; with just wireless KB/Mouse/Controller, my speeds are up to 42mbps (Go verizon for that boost!). However, once I use the adapter for my wireless headset, the internet speed drops to 4mbps

Q: Is there a solution for the second problem? The solution for the former is obviously a new card.

Other than getting a different wireless headset that doesn't use the 2.4 GHz spectrum, I don't really have another suggestion...

You could also get another router+wireless card that uses 5 ghz. Otherwise yeah, not much you can do about interference, other than get rid of the devices causing it.

For these speeds, I can deal with wired headset np. Wireless card is tempting, but idk if I want to go through that dilemma (Although my laptop is probably one of the easiest ones to access). Thanks.
