most of you (and myself) probably didn't care much about the slowly growing ouya support from developers like the human element or the on-live guys. however, this one might get your interest: square enix supports ouya

I'm not surprised, but I am at the same time.

It's probably a very easy platform for them to quickly port over their iOS and Android titles right now to make an extra buck. It's of definite interest, to be sure. Though until they announce titles along the lines of their lesser re-re-re-re-re-re-released varieties FF3 alone isn't enough for me.

Though again, my curiosity is piqued...wonder who else will follow now.

Im a little shocked. As it stands this might not make it out of the USA; its a gamble for SE to make games that might not make it to Japan. There is hope they said to bringing it overseas but they are still working on that.

I still have my eye on it. And I really do hope for the best(hell im backing it lol)

Well, at least we'll know what Ouya's most expensive game will be.

With the tegra 3 processor in it, it'd be a joke to port the majority of Android games to it since they primarily designed for a weaker smart phone. Only nuisance for the developers is that it's yet another android device fragmenting the marketplace, requiring you to have to support yet another device.

This thing is hardly a gamble for any developer to support that already has releases on Android (which Square Enix does). It's not like it's a completely new OS that you have to port your games to from the ground up.

That is not what I mean, its a risk of pissing off the people in Japan lol. If all they do is ports then yes; however if they make new games(ya they wont lol but if they do) it could be bad for them.

I could be wrong, but its sorta like how we sometimes wish games from japan would come to the US.

I thought a selling point of Ouya was playing emulators on it? Wouldn't SE releasing FF3 be a redundancy that costs money? Or am I remembering that incorrectly?

All their 'new' smartphone/tablet crap always comes out on iOS first anyways, usually with multiple language supported on day 1.

Android is just the garbage end of the spectrum for them if they can be bothered to port the stuff over from iOS to start with. Would love Chaos Rings series on Android for when I pick up my Nexus 7, but I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.

It's the DS FF3 which was a full 3d remake of the original FF3 on the NES, that never got released in English prior to the remake.

since SE won't spend too much on this port, it's a pretty cheap test for them to see if more ports (or even new games) would be justified on the ouya. if not, they can just add some dlc to hold their promise of continued "support".

It's the worst FF of the series so yeah, no additional interest.

Feast your eyes upon the latest images of the OUYA controller and console. Please note that the design is still in progress--but we couldn’t hold out any longer. We needed you to know that the controller has two handles. You can hold it in both hands.

P.S. We're still deciding on the buttons. For now, we've stuck with the colored circles as placeholders. But don't fret, we won't leave out colorblind gamers.

update on the ouya kickstarter page about SE support:

We’ve been saying that OUYA will offer all kinds of games.

This morning, we are honored to announce that OUYA is partnering with Square Enix to bring you one of the most beloved franchises in gaming -- Final Fantasy. We will kick this off with Final Fantasy III, which will be a launch title on OUYA. This will be the first time gamers outside of Japan can play FFIII on their televisions through a console.

But that’s not the end of it: We’re promising to deliver Final Fantasy III like you’ve never seen it before – Hironobu Sakaguchi’s third installment in the role playing game franchise will be updated to exploit OUYA’s high-definition resolution in glorious graphic detail. For those of you who are new to Final Fantasy, we’ll offer a free demo so you can give it a go!

Previously unreleased in the U.S. until it appeared as a 3D remake for the Nintendo DS in 2006, Final Fantasy III was widely referred to as one of the “missing pieces” in the FF series. OUYA players can now proudly claim this piece of the puzzle.

We’re thrilled to bring this storied franchise to OUYA.

Ouya, the $99 Android video game console, also doubles as a media player. The open source XMBC player will be available for Ouya, perhaps even built into the system.

TuneIn, a free radio service with over 70,000 stations, is also backing Ouya by bringing their app to the tiny console.

You can still get an Ouya in the next 30 hours or so by ordering one on Kickstarter. Each palm sized console includes one regular size controller. The Ouya is expected to ship in March 2013.

I imagine the hardware's already there for the gaming performance?
    FUCK YISS

absolutely worth the pricetag now, even moreso if support for popular streaming services becomes a thing

Does Ouya have a h264 hardware decoder? 720p and up might be rough done in software for a lot of stuff.

Yeah it's a Tegra3, these are like the ideal applications this was made for. They wouldn't be making much of a stink about it if they couldn't even reliably decode 1080p for a device like this.

The design group working on the Ouya home console has confirmed that the system will officially support four controllers.

It an update on the project's Kickstarter page, Namco Bandai's US vice president of marketing also revealed that the publisher is in "active discussions" with Ouya "to bring some of the world's biggest gaming properties to the exciting new open gaming platform". Pac-Man, Tekken, Ridge Racer - tell Namco what you'd like to see on the new console here.

With just one day left before the end of Ouya's funding drive, donations have started to increase rapidly. Backers have pledged around $1 million in the past 24 hours or so, taking its total to $8,011,903 at the time of writing.

If it were possible to turn the OUYA into an emulator and play older games from the PS1, N64 and super nintendo that would be so awesome! Does anyone know if it will be able to do such things? I'd be sold if it could
