EA is buying Codemasters for $1.2bn.

These guys are one of the oldest British developers and famous with rock solid racing titles. I am disappointed, hope they'll be able to maintain their quality.

Unfortunate. China wins another round of censorship in the US somehow. If you want to know why this game is not listed on Steam and now GOG backtracks on releasing it, its because in the games files theres a texture/scroll with chinese text that calls the Chinese leader Winnie the Pooh and a Moron.

It's not been a good with with CDP with Cyberpunk and now this. Who would have thought Pooh was such a hardcore gamer he spoke for enough people to can a game.

That content was removed in 2019 and wasn't part of the gog release.

Not a risk assessor by any means but the predictable backlash over the perception of censorship/kowtowing to china seems like it would outweigh the potential 'social credit points'.

Oh no I mean... CDPR likely did get a decent number of complaints from people, but it was all from Chinese citizens trying up their social credit score.

As for GOG or any other company in existence, they will always err on the side of not making China angry so as soon as saw the issue starting to materialize, they immediately folded.

Yeah they removed the offending image almost immediately, but they already got on the bad side of Pooh Bear and this has been the story ever since :\

Why not just make the game unavailable from China originating IPs then? Doesn't Steam already have a completely separate storefront for China as a result of similar things? GOG should be able to as well if they care enough to bow to pressure, but I guess both bailed on it for this particular game.
