Right? A company caring about their customers instead of caring about how much money they can squeeze out of them? This ain't the early 2000s.

Nordisk Games, a subsidiary of Nordisk Film, has acquired it's second studio Supermassive Games (Until Dawn/The Quarry/The Dark Pictures Anthology).

Copenhagen-based Nordisk Games has fully acquired Supermassive Games, the BAFTA-winning, independent UK game developer best known for the critically acclaimed narrative games Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology and the recently released The Quarry. The acquisition follows Nordisk Games taking a 30.7% stake in the studio in March 2021.

Supermassive Games was founded in 2008 by Pete Samuels and Joe Samuels. Since then has grown to more than 300 talented developers that share the studio’s love of high-end production values and cinematic excellence. Supermassive Games has received numerous awards for its immersive narrative games, including a BAFTA for PS4 game Until Dawn. The studio launched its first owned-IP, The Dark Pictures Anthology, in 2019 and its most recent game is the teen-horror title The Quarry,

“It’s been a little over a year since Nordisk Games made an initial investment in Supermassive Games and our vision for the future. During that time, we have found that we share a lot of important values with Mikkel and his team, and we believe these values to be equally important to our existing commercial partners who we will continue to support. Having had such a positive experience over the past year it wasn’t a difficult decision when Nordisk Games wanted to explore increasing their investment. We have an exciting and ambitious growth strategy for Supermassive Games and Nordisk Games ownership only enhances that. I’m hugely excited about where the security offered by this partnership, and continued access to the expertise within Nordisk Games, will take us next,” said Pete Samuels, CEO of Supermassive Games.

Nordisk Games is owned by entertainment company Nordisk Film, a part of Egmont, a leading Nordic media group. In recent years Nordisk Games has built a high-growth portfolio of minority and majority-owned game studios that includes Avalanche Studios Group, Star Stable Entertainment, Flashbulb Games, Nitro Games, and MercurySteam.

”In the year we’ve worked alongside Pete and Joe and the whole Supermassive team, it’s been clear to us the amount of talent, as well as how much potential there is to further develop the kinds of story and narrative-driven games they excel at,” said Mikkel Weider, CEO of Nordisk Games. “In acquiring 100% of the studio we’ll be able to increase our support to the team, and most importantly, continue the great working relationship we have with them.”
They also own Avalanche Studios (Just Cause).

    Rumor

    Spoiler: show

Next public stockholder results isn't until August 5th. This could be something, could be nothing.

Edit: This came from the massive FromSoftware ransomware attack.

I think there are a few sources saying that some of the titles listed there are legit, but the actual image is fabricated.

If there's one thing the Dragonball gaming devs love to do, its re-use the same fucking engine for 300 years. I still remember how many goddamn games they spewed from the husk of the Budokai engine.

Xenoverse itself always just looked like an "upgraded" Raging Blast engine, which was itself just an upgrade from the Budokai Tenkaichi engine.

I'm not sure what I want from the series at this point, though. I certainly don't want that hideous "hyper-realistic anime" style like in that relatively recent Jump crossover game. The 3rd-person "behind the shoulder" style is still my preferred for a DBZ fighter, but I'm just not sure how I want the game to "look". I really wish I could have gotten an upgraded version of the 3v3 2D/3D sprite-based fighter like Legends on the PSX. I always wanted to see a team fighter like that ported into the modern world, which is... "kind of" Xenoverse?

Something has always thrown me off of that series, and I think its just that my brain knows that the game looks and feels like a goddamn asset flip of previous games.

BT3 was still my favorite version of the Xenoverse type. Slick graphics for the time, a solid frame-rate, excellent combo routes leading to long chains and solid creativity... So why does Xenoverse feel like a downgrade to a PS2 game in terms of how it feels to play it??

I never played Xenoverse 2 so I can't comment on that but my general gripes with the first game was how most moves/gear/etc. were RNG fights.

I still find it baffling you have to pay a sub fee to play multiplayer games on XBL/PSN when this shit happens on the regular, for systems that are primarily just a matchmaker/leaderboard tracker.

    Beginning September 30th.

"Ads that appear during game play at the beginning of a level or during the beginning of a content segment are not allowed," said Google on its support website. "Full screen video interstitial ads that appear before an app’s loading screen (splash screen) are not allowed.

"Full screen interstitial ads of all formats that are not closeable after 15 seconds are not allowed. Opt-in full screen interstitials or full screen interstitials that do not interrupt users in their actions (for example, after the score screen in a game app) may persist more than 15 seconds."

Google notes its new policy doesn't apply to rewarded adverts that are explicitly opted-in by users, such as adverts that can be watched in exchange for an in-game reward. The new guidelines also won't apply to monetization and advertising that "does not interfere with normal app use or gameplay" -- so, for example, video content with integrated ads or non-full screen banner ads.

Running though some examples of common violations, Google said unexpected ads that appear during gameplay or at the beginning of a content segment will be prohibited as users don't expect to be shown a piece of marketing at those points.

Wouldn't that kill off pretty much 95% of the F2P titles on their store? Will just lead to newer games punishing players with worse grinds unless you 'opt-in' to the ads.

I think for the games most of us here play, there won't be any kind of difference because they're already opt-in.

This may kill some of the low-budget cash grab match-types and the like, but I'm not sure that could be called a big loss.

Like I said in the comment section, please let them go back to being ninjas. I'd love to hear "Let's Fighting Love" as the main battle theme.
