Seriously, the console category should be console specific games, there should be a separate multiplatform category for stuff that's on more than one platform.
I see the VGAs are keeping the tradition of being incrementally more shitty with each passing year.

http://gematsu.com/2012/11/star-wars...rcent-completeStar Wars: Battlefront III was 99 percent complete before it was canned by publisher LucasArts, developer Free Radical co-founder Steve Ellis has said.
“It felt like we had turned a corner as a company,” Ellis told gamesTM magazine (via NowGamer. “We had had a dark period during the development of Haze, we’d had problems with our tech and we’d had some growing pains as we expanded to the size we needed to be, but it really felt like we were finally coming out of the other side intact.
“We were making a game with very high ambition. You could start a battle on the ground, jump into a ship and fly into space, continuing on to dock in a capital ship and continue the battle there. We’d had to build all kinds of new tech and overcome numerous technical challenges and limitations but we had done it.
“We had a 99% finished game that just needed bug fixing for release. It should have been our most successful game, but it was cancelled for financial reasons. I’m happy that people did at least get to see what we were working on and share the team’s enthusiasm for it.”
According to Martin Wakeley, a project manager at Free Radical during the time, the studio’s relationship with LucasArts was “becoming more distant” due to the studio’s change of direction.
“I wasn’t party to all the ins and outs but we had both our games signed with them, and it became apparent we needed to look for other projects fast,” said Wakeley. “The management were very open and we were kept informed of all developments. We worked hard to try and get some projects signed but it wasn’t to be. The writing was on the wall for a long time but people stayed loyal rather than jumping ship.”

RUMOR: RESIDENT EVIL 6: FINAL HOPE, REVELATIONS HD IS REAL, AND OPERATION RACCOON CITY GETS A SEQUEL
It’s time for some rumors! Said rumors come from Dual Pixels, who received the information from Geno, a reliable source that ended up being right about the new Castlevania: Lords of Shadow projects (LoS 2 and MoF) and Kingdom Hearts HD Collection. But this rumor isn’t for you ‘vaniacs and keyblade lovers! This is all about Resident Evil.
According to Geno, Capcom will be bringing the series to Wii U with the release of Resident Evil 6: Final Hope. This is pretty much the game’s Gold Edition and, as expected, will come with a brand new scenario. Said scenario stars Claire, and it’s said to be taking place after the events of Resident Evil 6 (perhaps this will set the stage for Resident Evil 7). This edition of the game will also fix bugs and other gameplay issues people had problems with, Geno says. The GamePad will be heavily utilized and you’ll also be able to play the game without having the TV on as well. It wasn’t outright stated that this will be exclusive to Wii U, though.
Remember Resident Evil Revelations being listed as coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360? Yeah, well, Geno says it’s true. This HD Edition will also be coming to Wii U. He didn’t say if there would be any extra content though.
Lastly, we have a sequel to Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Yes, you read that right. I’m not surprised at all by this, despite just being a rumor, because the game’s final Spec Ops missions did leave things at a cliffhanger and open for a sequel. It’s going to be called Operation Terrestrial Fear and it’s going to be hitting the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita and Wii U.
Take all of this with mountains of salt. Realistically speaking, stuff like this may not be announced until E3 next year, if these rumors are legit that is. The only thing I can see being announced sooner is Revelations HD Edition. What do you think about all this?
http://epicgames.com/community/2012/...he-epic-board/Mike Capps Retiring to the Epic Board
It’s hard to believe I’m writing these words, but here goes! After 10 crazy and wonderful years, I’m handing off my current presidential duties at Epic, and transitioning into an advisory role as well as remaining on the Epic board of directors.
If you haven’t heard, I have a baby boy on the way. I’m fortunate that with Epic’s success and generosity, I can be a stay at home dad for a while. My wife Julianne and I are very happy in Raleigh, and other than cleaning up baby barf, I don’t have much planned. I might do some teaching, spend more time on creative writing, and maybe get more active with a few charities.
After dedicating a decade of my life to Epic, and with so many close friends here, it’s impossible to just walk away. I absolutely love this company. If you cut me, I think I probably bleed nanoblack and Imulsion. (Wow, just think about what mixing those would do…) Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney and other board members asked me to stay on the board, and I’m thrilled to do so as I’m truly excited about our future games and Unreal Engine 4.
As I mentioned above, I’ll continue to be available as a resource to Epic, to provide context or advice where I can. Whatever I can do to help in Epic’s success, I’m in! I’ve got great confidence in our executive team – VP of Development Paul Meegan is new to our Raleigh HQ, but we’ve worked with him for years, and I can only contemplate this retirement knowing that he and VP of Operations John Farnsworth can manage development better than I ever did.
Our partners and customers can reach me anytime on my Epic email address, and I’ll still be posting the occasional foodie and gamer musings on @epicactual. As a member of the board, I’ll help keep the ship pointed directly towards Na Pali, and make sure that everything we do is Epic.

SEGA of America and SEGA Europe today announced that Creative Assembly, award-winning creator of the Total War series, and SEGA Group have entered into a multi-title licensing deal with Games Workshop to create videogames based in the Warhammer universe of fantasy battles.
A new high-calibre development team has been set up at Creative Assembly’s UK studio to work alongside the existing Total War, Alien IP and Mobile teams on the first Warhammer title in the deal, scheduled to launch from beyond 2013.
“With this year being our 25th anniversary”, said Tim Heaton, Studio Director at Creative Assembly, “it seems fitting for us to embark on such a dream project with such a well-established partner. The incredibly rich and detailed Warhammer world is something we grew up with, and has left an indelible imprint on us as both designers and gamers.”
“We’ll be doing the Warhammer universe justice in a way that has never been attempted before. We’re bringing those 25 years of experience and expertise in extremely high-scoring games to bear, delivering a Warhammer experience that videogamers will absolutely love.”
“We have enormous respect for SEGA and Creative Assembly and have felt for a long time that the combination of the enormously rich setting of the Warhammer world, and their stunning development talent is a match with huge potential,” said Jon Gillard, Games Workshop’s Head of Licensing. “Now that we’ve managed to bring these two giants of gaming together it is safe to say that some truly amazing products are going to be unleashed as a result. We are excited at the possibilities, and are enthusiastically working with the team at Creative Assembly already.”
This first Warhammer game joins the eagerly-awaited Total War: Rome II and the untitled Alien IP as one of five projects currently in production at Creative Assembly, now one of the largest developers in Europe.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...gen-online-rpgI bet publishers love LinkedIn. This time an employee of Ubisoft Massive in Sweden - key studio involved in making Far Cry 3 - has blabbed about working on an "AAA Next-Gen Online RPG" (spotted by PlayStation Lifestyle).
Next-gen was a phrase bandied about for years to describe current gen projects because it made them sound a bit flashier. But now we're so close to next-gen machinery what else can he mean? He also lists the project as starting in October 2012 and its contents as "top secret", which all tallies with an actual next-gen project.
Massive Entertainment lists the same project on its website, albeit without the "next-gen" bit. There the project is known as "Online RPG", according to a lead level designer job vacancy.
"Massive is looking for an experienced Lead Level Designer to join an international team working on a AAA Online RPG," the post advertises. "In this position you will lead a Level Design team in building the best gameplay experiences ever conceived. For any game. Ever."
Experience making third-person action games is asked for but no specific MMO experience is required. "Experience working on an online multiplayer, co-operative or open-world game project" is a bonus. Sounds like this Online RPG is less an MMO and more of an evolution of Assassin's Creed multiplayer or something like that.
There's no mention of platforms.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/06/bi...agent-in-2009/Way back in the olden days of 2009, BioWare co-founder Trent Oster started work on a new, PS3-exclusive spy game called Agent, which "failed to survive the recession," Oster told Eurogamer. Agent was a mix of Jason Bourne and 007, Oster said, though we detected a hint of Deus Ex in his description as well:
"The concept was to do the other half of GoldenEye," Oster said. "The idea being that James Bond isn't just a gun that walks around the world and shoots people. He's a suave manipulator, he's a talented martial artist, he's a secret agent. We wanted to cross that 007 with Jason Bourne, where he's been modified in some way; you're not sure what, but he's definitely deadly.
"We really wanted to push the acting side, the digital acting. We really wanted to be very high drama, very intense scenes. I always think of the scene in the second Bourne movie where Jason Bourne's choking the guy out with a book and he's right in his face and it's this very intense moment. That was one of the key things we wanted to carry off."
No, Agent didn't have anything to do with the PS3-exclusive game that Rockstar announced in 2009, also dubbed Agent. EA "didn't believe in the concept" for BioWare's game and Agent was sent off on a mission from which it'd never return: counting all the grains of sand on a windy beach. Or just the recycle bin.

Edge of Twilight Returns After Two Years in Development Limbo
It’s that time of year when avid gamers are beginning to draft their Christmas lists. But fans of action-adventure games should consider leaving one space empty—Edge of Twilight has been revived! JDJC & Fuzzyeyes Limited, the developer of Edge of Twilight is confirming today that the production of Edge of Twilight was resumed in late 2011. Edge of Twilight was one of the more highly anticipated titles throughout 2008 to 2010 due to its dark, steampunk atmosphere and novel world broken into the realms of light and darkness.
Published by the newly established publishing house, Fuzzyeyes Entertainment Limited and developed by JDJC & Fuzzyeyes Limited and its Japanese team Bow Interactive, a multinational game developer with development teams in throughout Oceania, Asia, and Japan, Edge of Twilight is currently slated for an “around Christmas” release date. More information on the release of this long awaited game remains will be released in the coming weeks.
About Edge of Twilight
The Edge of Twilight series is a multiplatform, diverse-genre series of steampunk titles, all taking place in the same world, one in which night and day exist as separate realms. The series will not commit to a set genre, but instead focus on a set world, flushing out the characters, world, and story throughout the series. The first title, which is set for release in late 2012, will carry the name of the series itself, Edge of Twilight, and will focus around Lex, a half-breed who can bridge the gap between the realms of darkness and light. This forthcoming title will be an action/adventure game with heavy focus on gameplay, story, and puzzles.
Here's one for the unexpected category.

In the new post, Menin will focus on marketing and distribution opportunities for the videogame-centric broadband channel with broadcast and cable nets. She will report to Jay Sampson, the Machinima's exec veep of global sales, marketing and advertising operations.
"Machinima has seen explosive growth in the TV category and has enjoyed partnerships to date with many networks including A&E, AMC, and Showtime, to name a few," said Sampson. "Increasingly, Machinima has seen marketers and programmers from television networks turn to Machinima to drive immediate tune-in and create sustained buzz by marketing to Machinima's core male 18-34 demographic."

Machinima.com
YouTube video producer Machinima has laid off 23 of its 200 employees today. Some of those affected took to Twitter to announce their unemployment.
“I just found out I am no longer employed. Should probably update that LinkedIn profile,” said editorial manager Billy Shibley.
“Effective immediately I am no longer at Machinima. Would love to send an official email with my contact info but they took my computer,” added director of gaming programming JustinFassino. “Also, it was really nice that our executives didn't bother to show up for our farewell today. Classic.”
Machinima Editor-in-Chief Rob Smith told Joystiq that those affected came from the company's programming and production departments.
"This is growing pains. Machinima has grown a lot in a short amount of time. We had to look at the business, look at where we're focusing. It has hit the editorial group, but we are still doing editorial coverage in a slightly different way,” Smith said to Joystiq.
The layoffs come a day after Machinima hired a new executive to improve the YouTube network's marketing and distribution efforts with traditional television networks. Former Yahoo category lead for Entertainment & Travel Debbie Menin joined the company as its new vice president of partner development, according to Variety.
Despite today's layoffs the company is still hiring, including a number of executive and sales level positions.
Update: GamesIndustry International has received an official statement from Machinima about the layoffs.
"Today Machinima underwent a reorganization to address its global growth, and this process unfortunately resulted in layoffs. Less than 10% of Machinima's workforce was effected. Also as part of the restructure Machinima is hiring across key divisions including Sales, Marketing and Product," said the company's statement.
