Square Enix's Los Angeles branch has suffered layoffs, although the company's senior director of Public Relations Riley Brennan says that the move will not affect MMO operations.

Talking to Massively, Brennan did not divulge how many people have been affected by the workforce reduction, but he was keen to stress that work continues as normal at the studio.

"The decision will not have any impact on the operations of MMO titles," he noted. "Customers can expect those services to continue, including the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn."

Disney Interactive will unveil a new "gaming initative" called Disney Infinity on Jan. 15, according to an invitation received today by Joystiq. Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants and Disney/Pixar CCO John Lasseter will speak at the event, suggesting that Disney Infinity is a Big Deal.

An interview with Disney CEO Robert Iger in October revealed plans for something called "Toy Box," which would have Disney and Pixar characters interacting in games across multiple platforms. It's possible that Disney has renamed that project "Infinity." We'll find out in January.

THQ has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and has entered into an asset purchase agreement with another company.

"The sale and filing are necessary next steps to complete THQ's transformation and position the company for the future, as we remain confident in our existing pipeline of games, the strength of our studios and THQ's deep bench of talent," said THQ CEO Brian Farrell.

THQ hopes to have the sales process completed in 30 days. No layoffs planned, employees to be paid normally and work normal schedules.

All assets chosen for inclusion in the game remain the property of the creator and they are free to sell it in the Asset Store. In addition to us buying the asset from the creator, we are providing an “As seen in Wasteland 2” badge that they can display on their item in the store.

Sony has told the Japanese retailers that once the current stock of PlayStation 2 consoles are over, they won’t be replenishing it. This effectively means that Sony has discontinued the system and are just waiting for the stocks to sell out.

The console was released in March 4, 2000 in Japan, and the stocks will probably get over in the same month in 2013. So that brings us to a shelf life of 13 years.
