Nintendo Announces Promotion of NOA Chairman Tatsumi Kimishima to NCL Managing Director

Nintendo today announced a planned promotion for Tatsumi Kimishima, current chairman and CEO of Nintendo of America and a director of its parent Nintendo. Subject to shareholder approval, he will become NCL managing director, and transfer from NOA in Redmond, Washington, to NCL headquarters in Kyoto, Japan. In his new position, he will assume the roles of general manager of Corporate Analysis and Administration, and general manager of the General Affairs Division. These titles are currently held by Yoshihiro Mori and Masaharu Matsumoto respectively, both of whom are retiring. Kimishima will assume his new duties in Kyoto later this summer.

Kimishima was named to his current position at NOA in 2006. He first joined Nintendo in Japan in 2000, and was subsequently named president of Pokémon USA in 2001, before moving on to become president of the Nintendo of America subsidiary in 2002. Previously, he spent 27 years at Sanwa Bank of Japan, with multiple postings in North America and Central America.

Many of his current responsibilities, including the CEO title, will be assumed by Global President Satoru Iwata. The move will support the company’s unified global strategy, allow streamlined decision making and enhance Nintendo's organizational agility in the current competitive environment. Reggie Fils-Aime will continue in his role as president and COO of NOA, reporting to Iwata.

Nintendo Returns To Profitability But Misses Forecast By 50%

Nintendo have missed their profit forecast by about 50%, owing to weaker-than-expected sales outside Japan. While titles like Paper Mario: Sticker Star and New Super Mario Bros. 2 have been successful, they “did not generate sufficient sales momentum” in overseas markets, along with games like Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7.



Meanwhile, Wii U games New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land have sold 2.15 million and 2.6 million units respectively, but global Wii U sales are at a mere 3.45 million units, owing to delays in a number of software titles that Nintendo had planned for the device’s launch window.



While global Wii U sales are 3.45 million units, global Nintendo 3DS sales are at 31.09 million units. However, both devices missed their sales targets of 4 million and 15 million for the last fiscal year. As a result, while Nintendo are now back to being profitable, their full-year profits were a mere 7.1 billion yen ($71.4 million)—half of their forecast of 14 billion yen ($140.7 million).



For the ongoing fiscal year, Nintendo have plans to return to “Nintendo-like” profits and are undertaking a number of initiatives that they have previously outlined, including releasing a steady stream of games for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and helping third-party publishers in Japan bring their 3DS games overseas. The company touched upon several of these titles during a Nintendo Direct presentation last week.



Nintendo also plan to promote download sales of their retail software in order to improve profitability. The company plans to sell 9 million Wii U consoles and 18 million Nintendo 3DS portables during the ongoing fiscal year.

Guilty Gear and BlazBlue developer Arc System Works has launched a new website for its North American operations.

Available at ArcSystemWorks.us, the site features a blog and pages for the developer’s currently available games.

“We have a very passionate and vocal fan base overseas, so we wanted to give them a direct link to our organization that we’ve never had before,” said Minoru Kidooka, president of Arc System Works. “Our hope is that gamers become a part of the dialogue as we begin developing our latest titles with their input in mind.”

Atlus have announced their next Persona concert. A “Persona Music FES 2013” event is scheduled to take place on August 13th at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. Tickets cost either 15,000 yen or 7,000 yen, depending on whether you want a premium seat or not.

As with past concerts, Yumi Kawamura, Lotus Juice, Shihoko Hirata and Atlus’ Shoji Meguro will be part of the event.

So, we saw what the King of Fighters and Fatal Fury characters are up to and a social card game may not be that bad for SNK’s fighting game series. The Art of Fighting, however, became a… slot machine called Art of Fighting Rush.

Pachislot machines are kind of like arcade games that are totally based on luck. When you match reels animations play like Ryo Sakazaki fighting. Hmm… if King of Fighters and Fatal Fury are a social game and Art of Fighting is a slot machine, I wonder what’s going on with Samurai Shodown…

Move over Mario & Sonic at the Olympics! Sonic Athletics is the closest thing to running a 100 meter race as a blue hedgehog. Debuting at the Sega mini-amusement park Joypolis, Sonic Athletics puts eight players on treadmills to run in three events – 100 meter dash, long jump, and a 110 meter hurdles. There’s a button on the machine you can press to make Sonic or whoever you play as jump.

Extra Content Coming with PS3 & Vita Release of Hotline Miami

Hotline Miami will have additional content when it comes to PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, Dennatton Games’ Ralph Egas told GameKult.

The indie game will have a new lock-on feature, which PlayStation 3 users can activate with L1 and PS Vita users with the touchscreen, a co-op multiplayer mode, and cross-play capabilities.

Hotline Miami is due out for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita this spring for $9.99. A release date has yet to be announced, but it will “soon be unveiled,” according to Egas.

A patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Zone of the Enders HD Collection is in development at Kojima Productions, the latest Hideradio broadcast reveals.

The free patch will improve the game’s frame rate and make it look better. A new disc version of the game will be released with the patch in Japan, as well.

A release date was not announced.

Was ZoE HD released on 360 in Japan, or does Konami just really hate to patch 360 ports of their HD Collections?

Am interested at any rate since I never played the two, but held back after hearing all the stories about the messed up framerate compared to the original.
