After not even being able to play through half of Dragon Quarter due to hating it so much (I can't even remember why really, feels like it was 10 years ago lol), I really didn't even want this series to continue, but wow, did not expect it to go in this terrible direction.

edit: Oh jeez, it was 10 years ago. Time sure flies as I get older. =(

Square Enix has confirmed it is working on a Tomb Raider sequel for the next generation of consoles.

In an open letter, the company's Western CEO Phil Rogers confirmed that a sequel has been in development for some time.

"I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently," he wrote.

A sequel was pretty much guaranteed considering the game's success. We heard at Comic-Con this year that Dark Horse comics were producing a series set after the conclusion of the first game and designed to lead into the eventual follow-up.

Still, it's good to know for certain that the game is in development, that it's making good progress, and that it'll be on next-gen consoles everywhere. Be sure to let us know what you'd like to see in a sequel in the comments.

Senran Kagura Burst Coming To North America From Xseed

As both Marvelous AQL and Xseed have hinted to Siliconera in the past, Senran Kagura Burst is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in North America as a download title.

As detailed in our past reports on the game, Senran Kagura Burst features two games in one—an upgraded version of the original Senran Kagura (titled Skirting Shadows) with gameplay improvements and its story sequel, Senran Kagura Burst (titled Crimson Girls).

Each game allows you to take control of five female ninjas, each with their own special abilities. In between the game’s brawler-like stages, the story is told through a visual novel format. As the ninjas take damage, their clothing will get damaged (and eventually destroyed), too, which is one of the series’ more infamous features.

Xseed say that Senran Kagura Burst will feature Japanese voices with English subtitles. The game is slated for release in North America via the Nintendo eShop in fall 2013. Surprisingly, the game is rated “T” by the ESRB.

I hope that this does well and it makes them want to release Shinovi Versus.
I for sure won't be buying Burst, but I hope you guys do!

It's no doubt to test the waters to see if this works. If it does well then I assume they possibly would.

Rock Paper Shotgun confirms image of Left 4 Dead 3 & Source Engine 2 are real
Hello there, you are on the Internet. Assuming this is not your first time ever diving into this brave, wacky experiment that’s been a cornerstone of human society for the past 15 years, you are almost certainly aware of two things: 1) Porn. 2) A screenshot of an alleged Valve change log that recently leaked, more or less revealing the existence of Left 4 Dead 3 and Source Engine 2. I decided to get in touch with a few sources close to Valve for verification and a few scant details.

First up, the most important detail: yes, the image – which references L4D3 and Source 2 in multiple subject lines – is 100 percent real. Multiple sources, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed as much. For the moment, at least, it’s probably safe to assume that both are in development.

More interestingly, one source also pointed to another, slightly less-publicized email leak from a couple months ago that referenced Left 4 Dead 3 (with nearly 70 developers to its name), Source 2, and Half-Life 3, in addition to smaller scale mystery projects like “Cries Unheard” and “Microbe Wars”. The source declined to comment any further, but specifically pointed to it as something else well worth looking at. It should be noted, however, that the leak in question referenced some outdated information – including employees who had since departed from the shadowy mega-studio.

Contrasting that to an extent, further rumblings – verified by multiple sources but not really elaborated upon because Valve – suggest an internal feeling of change in recent times due to the success of potentially un-ending mainstay games like Valve’s own DOTA 2 and League of Legends. Perhaps expect fewer short-lived, more traditional games out of the gated Newelltopia, but note that I am only speculating about what might happen as a result of Valve’s apparent change in direction.

I’ve requested official comment from Valve, but heard nothing back so far. I’ll update this story if I do.

    Welcome to Volume

[REDACTED] Does not kill. That would be far too easy. Instead, he commits his crimes through stealth. He sneaks, he distracts, he avoids. He is never seen, and seldom heard. As he grows in popularity and notoriety, so will his inventory. Blackjacks, bugles, thunderclaps and veils are just some of the tools at [REDACTED]'s disposal.

The game will be released with hundreds of challenging and exciting environments, but that is only the beginning. Every area of the game can be remixed, added to and expanded upon. The community are free to take the game in any direction they want, even releasing their own takes on the core levels. This is a game which will evolve, warp and grow as players make their mark on [REDACTED]'s legend.

The story of Volume, the identity of the man, and the reason he steals, will be revealed in October at GameCity.

Bethesda boss claims the company is the "Pixar of video games"
Bethesda-published games may be very different in terms of genre and style, but PR and marketing vice president Pete Hines feels they’ve all got one important thing in common that clearly shows their origins.

Speaking to Polygon, Hines reiterated earlier messaging that the publisher is in no hurry to release squillions of games each year. He noted that although Bethesda is best known – as a developer – for first-person RPGs, its publishing catalogue is quite diverse.

“We don’t want to be defined by a genre. The Elder Scrolls is the crown jewel and probably always will be, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t continue to evolve and grow in other areas with games that share common sensibilities. We’re very proud to be a company that does single-player when a lot of other folks won’t,” he said.

“We just want to be known for continuing to innovate, for focusing on a few key titles that are done really well, at a really high level from quality, and then go and do another one.”

The company aims for every title to have something in common, though – a common quality level or “premium feel” that marks it as “a Bethesda game”. Hines compared this to Pixar movies, which are very different but easily identified.

“Wanting to be the Pixar of video games is not a bad thing,” he said.

“Like, ‘Well, you made [Finding Nemo], and you made Wall-E, and those things are nothing alike.’ But at the same time, they’re still forms of entertainment that share some commonalities in terms of level of execution, story, characters and the kinds of things they do, like, ‘Yes, I love both of those things even though they’re very different, and it doesn’t feel weird that a movie about a robot set on an abandoned Earth came from the same studio that made a movie about fish under the ocean.’

“It’s just how those things were executed and told that made them both Pixar things. You look at both of them and say, ‘That’s a Pixar movie.’ I would like for people, long term, to think of Bethesda like that. When you play a Bethesda game, there’s just something about it that makes you feel like that’s a Bethesda game.”

Bethesda’s other aim it commercial success. Critical success is not enough, Hines warned.

“I don’t want to be Realms of the Haunting, which is one of my favorite games of all time that nobody’s played. Such a great game, but not nearly enough people played it,” he said.

“I don’t want to do that. The reason that Dishonored was a success wasn’t because it was a great game, it was a success because it was a great game that a lot of people played.

“There’s a big difference there. If you make something awesome and nobody plays it, what were the last three years about? How do you face those guys at Arkane and say, ‘Sorry you just poured four years of your life into it and I couldn’t get anyone to buy it.’ That’s not a conversation I want to have.”

Bethesda’s upcoming slate includes Wolfenstein: The New Order and The Evil Within, both of which will appear on next-gen consoles early in their lifecycles. Hines sees this as an opportunity for Bethesda to make those titles stick in the mind for years to come.

“[Wolfenstein: The New Order] is still able to take advantage of that opportunity, and potentially dig in that foothold – same for Evil Within – with this new generation, and to be one of those year one launch titles that we all remember. We’d definitely like to establish Wolfenstein in this new iteration and The Evil Within as hallmark things,” he said.

I'd liken Valve more to the Pixar equivelant, since their titles tend to have something Bethesda's lack: Polish.

A lot of bullshit in that statement at any rate, probably PR speak to make their investors happy.
