So the Playstation Classic is happening this December, although lack of DualShock kills it for me, meaning no Ape Escape.
    $99/€99/9,980 yen

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced that PlayStation Classic, a miniature games console that mirrors the look of the original PlayStation and comes preloaded with 20 original games, will launch in limited quantities on December 3, 2018, in Japan, North America and Europe. PlayStation Classic will be available*1 at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 9,980 yen in Japan, $ 99 USD in North America and € 99 in Europe.

The original PlayStation made its debut in Japan on December 3, 1994, and with landmark innovations such as enabling real-time 3DCG rendering and adopting CD-ROMs had a huge impact on the games industry in the 1990s and beyond.

The design of the PlayStation Classic resembles PlayStation, including the button layout, as well as controllers and outer package*2, but in a miniature size, it is 45% smaller on the sides and 80% smaller in volume than the original console. Pre-loaded*3 with 20 PlayStation games*4 such as Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), Jumping Flash! (SIE), R4 Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 (Bandai Namco Entertainment), and Wild Arms (SIE). PlayStation Classic is a perfect fit for anyone including the current PlayStation fans as well as nostalgic fans that enjoyed playing the original PlayStation and gamers new to PlayStation who want to experience classic PlayStation games from the 1990s.

PlayStation Classic includes an HDMI™ cable for connecting to an external displays such as TV monitors, and a USB cable which needs to be connected to a commercially sold USB AC Adaptor*4 for power supply from the plug. On select supported titles, users can play with or against their friends with the two Controllers included with the console.

SIE will continue to further expand its software portfolio across PlayStation platforms as well as its network services to deliver entertainment experiences that are only possible on PlayStation.

I don't think the nes/snes classics had one either (at least mine didn't). Something about making them more universal and they don't have to make them as region specific.

Both of those were garbage. I was hoping this wouldn't be garbage.

When you consider that the games already announced are probably the best ones available, probably gonna be garbage.

Since it's Sony, I'm hoping they may be willing to toss an M rated game or two on there. So holding out hope for MGS, RE2, etc. I think it has potential.

I would expect them to pick 20 from the library that's already available across regions on PSN for PS3/PSP since they already went through the licensing/royalties bs in the past already. My kneejerk reaction was them just recycling unsold PSTVs as the main guts for this as well, heh. Although they'll more likely go for something that's cheaper to reproduce, like a SoC ARM board similar to what Nintendo is doing.

That aside, I'm curious what this compartment will be for, if not for cable storage. Cable storage, or perhaps a connector for expanding the game list at some point, given Nintendo passed on that idea twice now?

That compartment used to be an expansion slot for accessories.

I was hoping this could play ps1 cds, but since it cant it's probably a pass for me.

Fuck! Couldn't they have wait to release Wolf Among Us Season 2 before shutting down?

Quite a shame. I really enjoyed Batman, Borderlands, and Wolf.

So just gross mismanagement? Or were they just continuously buying properties hoping that one of them would eventually be as acclaimed as the first Walking Dead?

    I'd go with gross mismanagement.

The formula worked for TWD and Fables, but continually releasing variations of the exact same formula over and over again was going to catch up to them eventually, especially for properties no one really wanted as an old school adventure game (like GotG).

Just read that they're not finishing TWD The Final Season, and they had only sold the game as a bulk purchase for all the episodes. Fun times.

With staff costs alone accounted for TTG had to be pulling in thirty million plus a year to break even with their 315 staff. With the 33% cut platform holders take and a very generous (to ttg) 15% cut to the ip holder, each of their $25 games would need to sell four million copies at full price to just cover their staff costs adequately after taxes. This is without accounting for marketing costs, fees to actually license the IP, renting offices, and so on

Batman, one of their biggest sellers recently, hit 1.8 million after several sales
Looks like they were counting on TWD to perform well to keep themselves afloat, but it sold like shit.

Damn that’s terrible, I love TTG. I will be very upset to not see Wolf Among Us and Game of Thrones season 2 happen. And holy shit if the final season of The Walking Dead doesn’t finish that will be a travesty.

It's not finishing apparently, stopping after the second episode.

I wonder if people who bought the season pass are boned or if they will get a refund.

I hope some other studio picks up the assets and finishes, it just seems so wrong to have the final chapter of Clem’s story be left halfway finished.
