It's the usual dichotomy of solo quests vs group quests. Solo always feels too easy (thus "not epic") or too hard (hello Maat) for a portion of the playerbase. It's easier to make a group battle "feel epic" and challenging, but making a group, and making sure they perform adequately, is just plain irritating (hi2u United We Stand).
They simply chose the latter, probably in hope of fostering the community. That and making group quests is a lot easier than making a solo quest that "feels right". I'm not gonna knock the dev team's decision there. Someone's going to complain no matter what you do, and I'd rather have people complain about finding party members rather than complaining about the content itself. Convenience is nice, but not if it comes at the cost of fun. [Insert AF battles are not fun comment here] They're each pretty fun the first time you do them.
I really would rather they just develop a better LFG system. I can appreciate the utility of a global chat (especially in the situation you were mentioning) but every other MMO I've played with global chat has been 95+% trolling/bullshit. I sometimes wonder whether the Final Fantasy community is actually better or if it's just that we lack a global means of hearing the retards run ramped.
I agree that it has the potential to become a trollfest at times, but I don't think that is a good enough reason NOT to implement it. The utility is invaluable.
The party finder system that currently exists in the game is actually pretty nice, but it's buried in the menus and it seems like no one even knows it exists. It also doesn't support auto-translate, which is a major shortfall.
If they limit the time you can use the global channel to maybe once every 30 sec I might consider using it but for the most part, for reasons already mentioned above, I ignore or leave global channels.
Its not really an issue with content but more of an issue with low population not reaching critical mass to get the ball rolling. Added the unique situation the current game is in, it will be hard to get any content done for new players as everyone who has been around has cleared most content or waiting for 2.0 to join.
I'm making a note of these "helpful" servers. I expect a full retinue of elite royal guard upon my resubbing and rerolling.
Global chat or external, SE supported plugin that functions like XI Shouts, either/or is pretty much necessary.
If this game plans on moving into the modern age in any way, the community needs to have all the resources it requires to play the game effectively built into the game itself. We shouldn't be relying on third part plugins, websites, and all that other shit to know what the hell is going on. I hate having to go to mooglebox to look up recipes for example. That kinda shit is just retarded.
Guess that could be possible, though before I quit I think the biggest problem with my server was it being a ghost town damn near all the time. Log in message said it was full, but it pretty much looked like Trabia did.
Though I still think making stuff like AF party based when it only benefits you is a dumb idea for SE to continue to do. A fight should not take a fraction of the time it does to actually get people.
This so bad. We need global chat channel. I hate the fact that if I'm crafting I'm pretty much shit out of luck as far as finding a group because ARM leves are in Limsa and people shout for groups in UlDah.
Despite what people may tell you... Almost no one is using search function when putting groups together/seeking groups. I put up a comment just to do my part but it's always for nothing.
Gungnir is also the highest pop iirc, so that probably helps in my case.
Yeah the problem with stuff like party search and recruitment feature is that it's all passive recruitment (sitting there waiting for the party to build itself). global channels and dungeon finger is active recruitment (building a party live while doing other things). We need more of the latter.
But but but but passive recruitment leads to a better community of people that aren't waiting to have their hands held!
...Or something like that. I dunno though, after how badly TERA botched such a simple concept as a Dungeon Finder, I'm kinda scared to see what SE would come up with, and, more appropriately, what stupid sort of name they'd brand it with. We've got legion, bastion, pankration, campaign, and all these other terms for relatively simple things. Just imagine what they'd call dungeon finder: conglomeration or something stupid.
as shitty as its layout is, the fact that you can't do a god damn thing except walk/run while the search box is open is what pisses me off (like Grey just said)
What the heck are you trying to do while you're using the search box?
Ah, nevermind, I seem to recall trying to continue partying in XI all while searching for members. That's probably it.
I don't understand this complaint. All of those terms were names for a specific type of event/battle system w/e. It's not like Looking for Party in XI is called "Soulsearching" or some shit, nor is Trade called "Barter" or Friend List called "Chum Compendium." About the only peculiarly named system in XI is the whole Linkshell instead of Guild type thing.
I mean what would you call Pannkration? Fucked-up Pokemon? Legion? Perfect-Defense-Embrava-or-Lose? Campaign? Fighting a horde of enemies where you should prioritize keeping monsters alive instead of killing them to get maximum exp? >_>
shut your whore mouth rocl
