    LED TV Questions/Help

For a while now I have been looking to get a new 55" TV. A while back I saw a bunch of people on here really liked the Samsung models. I looked into them, compared at stores, etc, and agreed they seemed like a very good model. I have been looking at the current models and am slightly confused though.

I am trying (and failing) to realize the differences in the following 4 models.
    7100 7500 7550 8000

As far as I can tell with compare the only differences are:
    Dynamic Contrast Ratio
Resolution (1080p Full HD Resolution vs 1080p Resolution)
    3D (3D Enabled vs 2D & 3D in Full HD 1080p)
    Clear Motion Rate

I understand that with contrast ratio bigger is better, but are the differences notable? What is difference between the two resolution types?

All three of these tv's seem pretty identical to me, how wrong am I?

All of the models you mention have micro-dimming. The 7100 has the "standard" version, the 7500 and 7550 the "pro" version, and the 8000 has "ultimate".

Basically, it's localized backlight dimming. The higher end models have, I believe, smaller portions of the backlight they can control. None of the are "full-array" or per-pixel backlight control, like the higher end Sony models have.

The 7100 lacks the voice/gesture remote setup (and cell phone app remote I guess) that the higher end models have. It also doesn't have a webcam, has SRS sound instead of DNSe.

8000 has a dynamic noise filter.

Main thing I'm not sure on is the difference between the 7500 and 7550. I'd half wonder if they're retailer-specific models.

I did notice the camera thing, but the only other difference I saw was the micro dimming. Thanks Isiolia.

The only thing that ever matters when it comes to resolution is the numbers and whether it's progressive or interlaced (which should not even be an issue anymore). SUPER ULTRA HIGH DEFINITION FULL ONE THOUSAND AND EIGHTY PROGRESSIVE SCAN LINES is all just advertising bullshit.

I honestly would go LG. Been shopping around for a new tv, tested the samsung range as well as the LG and was way more impressed with the LG models.

Also LG's Passive 3d is amazing, I currectly have an active 3d tv and cannot sit through 20 minutes of continuous watching.

If you can go to a store like a bestbuy or frys, go take a look and try them out firsthand before buying

Also, don't get sucked into dynamic contrast ratios, since they're all just additional marketing bullshit.

Samsung is great but again if you buying a 3d tv, you are gonna use 3d right? My biggest issue is that active shutter glasses suck balls compared to passive. The Latest LG line is amazing and has gotten amazing reviews.
I myself have used samsung before and very happy, but I cannot use active 3d due to fatigue and headaches for sure. Passive does not have this issue at all.

A few years ago I would have agreed with you 100% but not anymore, LG panels are pretty amazing now.

If you do not care for 3d save money and do not buy a 3d model, samsung would be great for sure.

3D is included on pretty much anything past very low end models at this point, if you're looking at TVs and not monitors. If you think about it, a good chunk of what 3D utilizes is the faster refresh rates, which are also used for frame interpolation or even cinema modes (can't multiply 24fps into 60hz evenly, but you can with 120 or 240). The extra few chips to allow for 3D on TVs with that level of video processing already isn't adding much.

I've just personally seen too many issues with the quality of LG products that they fall into the list of companies that I will never do business with. I would recommend Vizio over LG.

Also don't ever use the 120hz post processing. Ever.

yeah I came across that Tak. The current LG reviews seem very promising, specifically the 55LM7600. I think I am going to take a trip down to BB this weekend to see how it looks in person (I have seen the Samsung).

Is the only difference between active and passive 3D the glasses or is there a difference in the picture quality.

The active shutter tends to be sharper, but prone to cross talk alot more. The passive screens has these little lines/grid that you can see if you go really really close, that is used for the passive technology, but you see nothing at the right distance away. I will honestly say if you do intend to watch any type of 3d on a regular basis use passive, as its closer to cinema viewing experience.

Also active 3d uses glasses that require batteries and are much more expensive, passive you can use old cheapo cinema glasses.
