Synopsis:

“Forward Unto Dawn” is a prequel story that portrays the first invasion by the Covenant, an alien force that has been the primary enemy in “Halo” games thus far. Set in a military academy, the futuristic science-fiction series focuses on a young trainee who will also appear in “Halo 4” and other upcoming games.

Now “Halo” has gone in front of the cameras, but without any movie studio assistance. Microsoft has produced a Web series, called “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn,” which will premiere this October in five episodes leading up to the release of the “Halo 4” video game. The segments will then be collected, along with 15 minutes of additional footage, into a 90-minute feature film.

Did anyone ever finish watching the Mortal Kombat episodes on Youtube? If they're anything like that it could be pretty decent. Hella budget for a web series.

I can already see they've completely disregarded the established lore. So much for holding out hope that 343 would care about continuity. Not that Bungie ever did.

Edit: Actually, thinking about it, they might be able to squeeze this in. Maybe. As long as it's not the First Contact between human/covenant, they might be okay.

That was pretty well done. For a person that has skipped the story line after Halo 1 (ohhaigaiznice2meetu) and has no knowledge of what's going on here it's really easy to grasp. Can't wait for more.

so where abouts is Halo 4 Forward unto Dawn set on there time line? there gear seems worse then what reaches is ment to be (100ish years before Halo 1?)

They're talking about Innies, and not Covenant, so it's at least 25 years before Halo 1. That's how long the war rages on before Reach/Halo 1. Also, for reference, at around this time the Spartan IIs are active (doing black ops type shit) but iirc they don't have their Mjollnir armor yet.

The beginning of the episode is right before Halo 4, with Laskey receiving Cortana's distress signal and realizing who's aboard. The rest of the episode is a flashback to his training and building up to when he first meets the Cheif.

There is a news report in the episode dating the flashback to roughly March 24, 2526 which is after the Spartan IIs get their Mjollnir armor, but before the Covenant have destroyed Eridanus II and starting the war in earnest.
