I don't think many people expected him to win the starting job, they still had Marshawn Lynch. After the trade, I think people expected more from Spiller, but Fred Jackson emerged (for good reason.)

they felt comfortable getting rid of lynch cause they just got spiller, they were lucky they had jackson and got production out of him like they did in 2011. in 2010 spiller/jackson both sucked iirc

He wasn't anything special but that offensive line was pretty inexperienced and didn't help him out much.

Point is, Spiller got a lot of attention for being a high draft pick, but he was a feature back in college for only one season and I don't think he was expected to be right out of the draft. He's a little bigger and more familiar with the Bills now, I wouldn't be surprised to see him thrive.
