Honda / Bison / Rufus? Peh....I really wish for once Wong/Ricky/Krone-Latif could make it as a team....we can never win because our teams are never optimized.

Also, I doubt Ross paid, or got someone to, for a flight to Tokyo if he didn't have a team made. Hopefully, they make it into the main event!

Well... We all know Justin and Ricky will never team with wolfkrone lol... Not to mention arcade tourney = no pads

They're always going to be stuck with Marn and Floe.

Actually, my biggest gripe with SF4 is the reversal window. FADC comes second.

Damn it, playing ST has changed me.

Yep, that is a dumb rule.

Our best chance would be Latif / Justin / Ricky with their mains.

Our best within the rules: Latif / Justin / PR Rog.

Well, he has been destroying most of Osaka the last 2 days.

He went 8-12 versus -6, and he went 7-4 against Amiyu. Those were the only 2 people who were close or beat him in sets.

Thank god, because I pretty much called that he wasn't getting top 8 at EVO.

Glad Amiyu put up a fight.

Marvel 3 is more popular than Marvel 2 because of Street Fighter 4. Whichever game would have came last would have been the most popular, regardless of which is better.

The competitive scene is more popular than before because of widespread, and cheap, access to the internet. This means Youtube, combo forums, and tons of sites like SRK and Dustloop. Again, whichever game came last would have been the most popular, regardless of which is better.

The results by the best players are random as hell, making the game random in the tourney scene. This is due to X-factor, comebacks being far too easy and unimpressive, and combos being easy to execute. It is like the Kids-R-US version of Marvel.

The best example is when Justin Wong went to Europe for the 1v5 Exhibition. Justin Wong played Team Roll Tier (Roll, Servbot, someone else) and he 5-0'd Europe's top 5 Marvel 2 players with the worst 3 characters in the game. Marvel 2 was not random, the best player won 9/10 times. This is NOT the case in Marvel 3, making it random.

If you can't see this, you are just too new to the scene to understand what you're talking about.
How many years did it take for the top players to solidify their position in marvel 2? How long has UMVC3 been out? Doesn't it seem a little ignorant to claim to know the best players when new tech is coming out just days before evo? Kubota escape? TAC Infinites? Japan's infatuation with Vergil? Sure, take your supposed top players, they've been exposed to each other through locals and majors. Now introduce some foreign players that blow up the scene with tech nobody has tried in the states. Kusoru's log trap and Frutsy's Modok come in mind. Hell, look how much wesker has dropped off the map for the past half a year, compared to when UMVC3 dropped and everyone played him. Look how much diversity in character selection there was in top 8 or 16, i forget which but srk did an article on it and a majority of the cast was covered at least once. The game is simply too new to claim to know the best players, with the daily introduction of new tech/team combos and mechanics.
Given your choice of "top players" in this "random" game, who would your top 8 have been?

Careful what you say blackrose, i'm apparently retarded for saying yipes wouldnt make top 16 at marvel and that marlin wouldnt make top 8 and predicting F champ would win and cry on stage.

You still need some kind of team balance tho, with the mains I still think Ricky and Justin are redundant, that if Justin lose to someone it's likely that Ricky would lose to the same matchup. They need someone to be a zoner. If FChamp would still grind SF4 he would be perfect, as he doesn't need to worry about Yun as much anymore.

“We try to take into account non-competitive level players so that they can enjoy these games too. I’d say we have varying levels of success in making sure there’s enough content and fun in the mechanics even if you don’t know how to plink, FADC or DHC. SFxT was intended to be a bit more casual friendly and frankly, I think with the introduction of so many new systems (gems, pandora, etc.) I think we probably overcomplicated things and it worked against that objective.

More to the OP’s point, I strongly agree that we have not done a good job of truly teaching new players about the basics of fighting game strategy in our current crop of titles. This has been a hot button conversation with the producers in the past and some have embraced it. In the case of SF3: Online Edition, we tried to put in challenges and trials that would have explained a bit more of the "why" as opposed to just the "how" in traditional training modes but we probably didn’t go as far as we could have.

In future titles, this is an area that I hope that our teams will take more time with as I view them as critical to the expansion of the fighting game audience. I know some competitive players will scoff, but the vitality of the scene is linked to how successful we all are (I say all because the community needs to be accepting of new players too) in these efforts. "Scrubs" are just players who don’t yet have the same experience or knowlege [sic] that you do. And remember, once upon a time, you were a scrub too. I am the perma-scrub (ask Seth [Killian], he knows).

We need to provide the right tools for new players to learn enough that they’re motivated to take the "next steps" in their developing love for fighting games. I’d like to think we can do better in the future.”

tl:dr Future Capcom fighting games will have more thorough training modes.

I've already posted who I thought were the best 8-10 players earlier in this thread. I will post them again later, but I am heading out to dinner.

You can always post who the best "current" players are, or it would never end. Marvel 2 evolved for literally 8 years until the best strats/chars were finally decided upon, and that doesn't mean 4 years into it you couldn't name who the best players were.

Yeah, there are a LOT of viable chars in 3, and there is a LOT of creativity to be had, but it doesn't change the fact that X-factor is retarded and general damage is TOO damn high. Que TOO DAMN HIGH meme.

I will post a "How MVC3 currently" is top 8, and then I will post a "if you take out the bullshit, who the top 8 would be" and post when I return.

Thanks for thought out responses and general intelligence in your argument btw.

Scunsion is easily the best player here and you never hear him say shit about other top players. Why? Because it's a lot easier to talk about being a great player than it is to actually be one. The tournaments that Yipes won or placed in weren't easy. Quit acting like it is.
Real talk, this is 100% correct. Every time I go to level up at Super Arcade, I get my shit pushed in. The best thing about it, is that I have full respect for most if not all players, including the scrubs like me, JUST for going.

Anyways, I came at the tail end of that discussion I inadvertently caused. Just have a few things to say:

Deejay is 100% on point. It's also why I've shut my own shit down and no longer shit talk mid and top players anymore. Yeah, I was good at games too when I was younger, but it doesn't mean shit if I can put my own money where my mouth is. If you feel half of these people are garbage, step your shit up, go to tournaments, and match these players, and win constantly and then you'll have a say on who sucks and who does. Otherwise, you're just an armchair stream monster leveling up (or not), theorycrafting, and shit talking like the rest of us. Marvel 3 is still new in comparison to all these other games, but the competition at EVO was fucking fierce as all hell just to get out of pools. I for one am making sure I do much better than this year at EVO 2013.

As much as people complain that Marvel 3 is a "random ass game," niggas support it, love it, and play it. It's what's on top right now in the US. Otherwise, Sanford wouldn't have even said anything at all regarding the game otherwise, he would have simply wrote it off as a shit game like he did last year. This however has nothing to do what's going on with old skool players that play it. I said "show some respect" to Sanford for a reason-- He could literally pick up UMvC3, and body everyone's shit here in BG and most other challengers, just off of Marvel 2 fundamentals. Same with Yipes. The difference now is that Sanford really doesn't care for Marvel 3 or how pussified this generation (and some of the old heads) of players have become. I don't really blame him, but he also fails to understand that Marvel 3 is an actual popular game now, in which people are given sponsorships and shit. People stream, and are more worried about how many stream numbers they can pull instead of hitting the lab constantly and learning new things (although some people can juggle training and stream whoring well, like FGTV and Arturo Sanchez). The grimy arcade/ranbat scene of Marvel 2 that he and some of us are looking for is long gone.

I remember talking to Arturo at EVO, asking him what he thinks of the scene now as compared to the old GGPO, Capcom, Tekken and poverty game only days. He basically told me that most people in this generation suck because the only care to rip technology off each other, and that we may never see a great overall leveling up period like CVS2 or Marvel 2 again. He also made mention to say that Japan might one day take over Marvel, if the hype continues to build over there.

P.S.: I totally believe that Marvel 3 has created it's own type of Yomi, much like how Marvel 2 did. Everyone can do combos now... that shit doesn't matter. The real fight begins with landing the [first] hit, and learning how to deal with 50/50, TACs, snapbacks, ToD characters, and ambiguous crossups now. Also learning when to use X-Factor to save your point and middle characters.
