Too bad Justin couldn't make it Friday, as he already showed the world how to beat Morri/Doom with his Spencer/Vergil team multiple times.

The problem in dealing with morrigan is multifaceted. She's an extremely versatile character, capable of rush down, zoning, and is strongest at either mid screen or full screen. She can make anything safe, and the only time she gets hit is her own fuckup (messing up a flight cancel, getting teleported behind and flight cancelling the wrong way causing you to soul drain and leaving yourself vulnerable) - this was a majority of chris' losses, input errors of his own fault causing him to get hit. She's high execution, and switching sides on her/getting behind her and flight cancelling the wrong way is typically the only thing that does him in)
Chris doesn't even use completely optimized damage combos most of the time (except his corner bnb with her is fantastic). Most of the time he has the option to kill a character by expending a bar, but would rather force them back to the ground and go back into astral vision. He plays it rather passively, and if he played it more aggressively, you'll see his team becoming a true monster.
Now, your options for dealing with the team are to try and either outzone it, rush her down not letting her get started or interrupting her gameplay. Wolverine is not a counter to morrigan, that's simply wolverine just getting in and it'd be as effective against any team. The fight against spencer definitely not in spencer's favor as she can bait bionic arm and beat it with shadow servant, her fireballs nullify grapple, and she doesn't play on the ground, so she's not vulnerable to something like arrow + grapple slightly above mixup, since she plays up there. Most of the time vergil getting in against a morrigan is yet again, just vergil being vergil, or crossing her up on a flight cancel causing her to be vulnerable - again, a morrigan error, not a vergil error. Strider? Shoryu him and missile, peace out 50% health. DHC to doom up super and strider dies. There's a difference with a team countering another (for example, morrigan/doom completely shits on characters like wolverine, tron, ironfist) and a team winning due to general strategy/gameplay. An example: spencer picked by chris to counter modok. This is a counter pick. This is different than picking wolverine akuma and mauling anything in front of you. That's general wolverine/akuma gameplay.
Methods for approaching her: Super jump, she flies under
Dash in? Get shell kicked on the way down from a soulfist
Dash in and get behind her? Land with jump heavy, it hits behind her
Outzone/disrupt her behavior? This seems like one of the best options, however it doesn't get you the damage needed to win a fight. Magneto's disruptor (H) hits through a soulfist. (L) does not, it simply nullifies it, yet most people use L against her.
Gameplay wise: Chris doesn't just soulfist at a random pattern. He soulfists on the ground and does an extremely fast flight -> soulfist h -> unfly. This causes the fireballs to reach the other side of the screen at almost the same time, instead of them being evenly paced. This is probably the most efficient and hardest pattern for astral vision, rather than something looking more like dieminions, which are just soulfist, fly, soulfist, unfly at an even pattern. He doesn't call doom randomly, he rarely ever leaves doom vulnerable after calling him out. He also now fullscreen hit confirms off of a soulfist or two, and has missile hit confirms. He's also not a one trick pony, see his spencer team vs frutsy, which eventually lead to his morrigan team vs frutsy, which was again...easily in chris' favor.
I remember Flocker went on a twitter rant when he broke down ChrisG's morri/doom. He said it took him 15 minutes to learn ChrisG's pattern and that he has no answer for it with Zero/Hawkeye. He tried to switch Mags into his last spot but it still hasn't worked out for him.
Blocked sofos just give too much meter, if you can't avoid them altogether your character isn't going to work out unless he makes an execution error.
After this last loss?
I just wish that Marlinpie would actually develop some tech for it... like seriously. He plays against that shit practically every damn day between Big Two and The Break, and I'm sure him and chris are good friends. He just don't care bout marvel no mo besides hitting TAC combos q.q His Viper could have some better combos as well, but he just doesn't learn them, feel like he's been playing the same strategy, combos and playstyle for the past 3-4 months and everyone just knows all of his setups.
Nah, this was months ago following Final Round. Flocker lost to Chris G in top 16 and vowed to never lose to it again. Then a couple days later he went on a rant on twitter saying that he's spent hours studing Chris G's fireball loop and he had 0 answers for it with the way his team was assembled. He then picked up Mags and he still can't beat ChrisG in tournament.
Thats because chris g's soulfist spam actually evolved tremendously since the beginning. Zero only has 1 answer to morrigan, which is a charged buster shot...which only fires downwards. (or straight if on the ground). Zero is rather easy to keep out as morrigan, but once he gets that hit, it's basically just zero playing against any character
Slott, any tips for fly/unfly combos? I think I'm going a bit too fast. Trying this basic combo with Nova at. Raw S -> MMH -> Fly -> MMH -> QCF L -> LHS (I think haven't really gotten this far, I can do the fly part and the QCF L, but I'm trying to do that part consistently rather than continuing the combo). And another was M, H, S, sj.H xx Fly xx j.H xx Unfly xx j.H, H, S, sj.M, j.M, j.H, j.S, fr.H, A1, M Cent Rush, H Cent Rush xx Super Nova
Edit: well I'm getting better lol. Still getting the occasional TAC though :< slower is better apparently
My only fly character I'm well versed with is morrigan, and she can fly/unfly cancel anything...so the timing is way different...sorry chief
Unfly permanently, insert AE disc, win.
fyi mashing isnt as good as pressing one button set to lp mp hp in this game. Try it on an off button and see for yourself. You press that button a few times without being a frantic cunt and you'll hit the max just as quick with minimal effort.
mashing was better in mvc2 but in mvc3 they designed it so you didn't have to break your fucking stick to get max damage.
Huh, so it does, heh. Thanks for the tip. Gettin this combo down fairly well now with nova.
Can do it on both sides fairly well now. PUTTIN IN WORK. Too bad it's corner only, and only builds 1 meter. I should honestly just spend the next week just doing movement, but I digress haha.
Ammy XF3 infinite is stupid easy <_<
This is incorrect in my experience, a 3 button press is valued the same as a 1 button press in terms of a mashable super. The best way to do it is alternate two buttons in rapid succession. An easy test for this is mashing something like gravity squeeze, magnetic tempest right next to them etc. You get the same exact hit count for a 3 button press as a 1 button press.
Currently testing this with akuma. Beam super is 25 hits unmashed, fully mashed is 50~51 hits. It seems like there's a threshold for mashing - a single button press adds 0 hits, 2 button presses adds no hits, adding 3 button presses (regardless of button pressed, whether light medium hard or a button for all 3) takes the hits to 28. Note - the speed of the mashing does infact matter. 3 button presses spaced out over the entire super adds 0 hits.
try doing the same exact timing with 1 button
I'm doing fine getting max with just spamming 1 button the entire time... really easily actually. Just spamming LLLLLL over and over, hell don't really even need to spam it that fast. Now on to team composition, anyone can get into chat to talk a bit?
I honestly think Chris Redfield would make a great counter for Morrigan. The problem is you're forced to build a team around Chris Redfield. I don't have the game anymore nor have I really played in months so I couldn't make any good suggestions other than possibly adding Dorm to that team and an get off me assist that can also fight against Morrigan (which puts Akuma first in my mind).
The objective with Chris would be to fight a mid to full screen game just like Morrigan. The biggest problem with this is Astral Vision because he'd have no answer for it aside from spamming fire grenades to shield himself from getting comboed but that only works so well. Also, Chris's biggest weakness is being attacked from above so Dante might work in place of Akuma or Dorm.
I wish I had time to go to Next Level but I don't. plus I need to get my controller modded.
is there an archive for AE top 8 anywhere? consolecombat doesn't seem to have anything archived at all, and everything on youtube seems to be old.
