Yeah I look at them all the same. It's a nasty bug and I want it dead!
To me, waterbugs are those big bastards in ponds with the 2 big pincers. They do like like roaches at first glance but they are aquatic so you'd probably never see one in a house.

Was a little standing water in the trash can, tipped that over, but other than that nope and def none in the house considering the water has been shut off since December. As for the net, they have multiple entrances to the house even bombing my room and keeping the windows closed (dog fucked all the screens when my uncle still had it), took about 2 days for them to get in and work their way back upstairs.
No more standing water, but neighbors on both sides have a pool, there's a nature park with a big ass swamp in my neighborhood, there's a half mile long ditch directly behind my yard with running water from one end till the other, and my back yard looks like a jungle/forest.
Spoiler: show
Edit
Palmettos are way worse. I'm sure they all can fly, but most of the regular ones don't do it very often. Come near a Palmetto and that thing will take flight quick as fuck. Flying ninja cockroaches are by far the worst.Yeah I look at them all the same. It's a nasty bug and I want it dead!
You're absolutely right! Bugs freak me out as it is. I was at a club on Siesta Key (Gilligain's) that has an open setting. I had to piss so I go to the men's room which is a long narrow corridor about three feet wide. I'm the only one in there and I hear this buzzing sound. I look over and there is a palmetto bug flying around banging against the walls. Freaked me out!
When i lived in miami, i was playing ffxi at 2 am and heard a crunching sound. I look to my right and see on the inside windowsill 1 foot away from me a palmetto bug eating another palmetto bug.
how have we gotten two pages without this?
you need to eliminate that ground cover, the dead leaves and debris, around your house as well or you are never getting rid of them.
You're pretty much screwed cs =( the pools aren't a problem this time a year, they're more then likely running 8-12 hours a day filtering anything that the chemicals don't kill, but that swamp and river you got are nasty breeding grounds, especially this time of year. I'm assuming you don't live in a gated community or something, cause at least then there's a chance they treat the water seasonally to curb their numbers, but with out it both the small puddles in that swamp/forest you got there plus the river means you're pretty much screwed. Our rains these past few weeks haven't helped either.
Doesn't help that you probably attract the insects like mad with no running water or electricity to shower and keep the house cool, you must glow like the sun to them.
my convict ciclids annihilated the mosquitos breeding in my outdoor pond, if that helps. they're cheap as hell too.
Yea you've pretty much summed it up. It's not a gated community, but it's actually a pretty decent neighborhood. Only one entrance/exit, but yea, that's not backed by a gate. It's all individual homes.
First summer w/o power. They were always around in the past, but I'd just put a box fan next to me on max power and they'd never be able to fly anywhere even close to me.
I don't know how you do it CS. One night while gaming I got up to make a sandwich. I get to the kitchen and turn on the light and (at least to me) this gigantic palmetto bug was on the counter just hanging out. I literally felt like I wanted to vomit just looking at it.
Trust me, I know they were there while I was sleeping every night, but even when I lived in my shoddy studio apartment I only saw 2 of them in a year. If they were there all the time like what you're describing, I just wouldn't be able to stand it.
Well, for me, it's mosquitoes and they come in hordes now, but yea, I'd rather have palmetto bugs. At least they just look ugly and don't fuck with me. These mosquitoes have me coming out of the closet every morning (cause I gotta sleep in that bitch to get away from them, which is even hotter than the rest of my house)
Bleach/clean the shit out of everything then use this everywhere around your place. They're easy to steal at Wal-Mart. Just make sure you get more than one box. So long as you're not lazy and leave food around it should control the infestation.
What does that have to do with a mosquito net? Put one up around your room, and they won't get in. They cannot get through the nets. If you can't cover every place they get into the house with the nets, then just hang around the areas you spend most of your time, and even if they get in the house, they won't get to you.As for the net, they have multiple entrances to the house even bombing my room and keeping the windows closed (dog fucked all the screens when my uncle still had it), took about 2 days for them to get in and work their way back upstairs.
When it gets mad hot the roaches sneak through the chimney. I need to get like a screen to cover it. And it sucks when one has to go to the kitchen in the middle of the night and see the bigass hissing roach there. One time I went to get a glass of water and the roach was under the cup, I thought it was a demon.
But yeah, keep the place clean.
