for me, spiderman is a good example of this. i don't mind how they did the venom suit, the secret wars explanation would have just been "wtf?" to people.
the tricky part for me is the web shooters in raimi's version, it makes logical sense as just another spider power, but then you miss out on how smart parker is to be able to make that shit his self. but for the most part, the movie writers need to stick to canon when it's easy .. this robin n talia shit is just an offense to the senses for no reason.
It's cool, he does not make the webbing in the new movie either. He buys it from oscorp. He still makes the shooters but adds awesome LEDs for awesome! LEDs make stuff smarter and more awesome.
it works for sports cars
And computers.
So you guys are saying that I should've waited on Batman and used my annual movie trip on Wreck-It Ralph instead?
Avengers.
Waiting for dvd because I didn't like Iron Man
One thing I have to note on canon from comics though is that they are notorious for retconning entire backgrounds and plots when new writers come on board or for one off series so I find it really hard to use that as a judgement against a movie adaptation.
Plot holes, I get it. Canon, hard sell.
When things are from cannon, people complain it's predictable sometimes.
Retcons don't happen because a new writer decides so. It is generally an editorial and company wide thing. Superman from the 60s and Superman today are not the same character. Lots of things have been retconned. Either to modernize or remove inconsistencies. When characters have that many years under their belt and all the dumb shit has been retoconned out, I don't see why current canon would be something to go against.
bad retcons, where the new writer decides to stick their dick in the mashed potatoes because "hey this is MY hero now" are bad. If you think of the director/screenwriter doing their own retcon in this style, its just as bad or worse.
good retcons should be about removing holes and inconsistencies, smoothing out the backstory or buffing an underpowered dude or nerfing a superman.
bringing someone back from death can go either way i think, pretty situational, the most used retcon imo.
Then you have this side saying you should have used this canon and the other side saying to use that. Current canon isn't always the best canon. I like that Nolan decided to use different concepts from different arcs and alternate histories to create what is essentially a brand new cinematic canon in the vein of a one-off story arc. I think the best complaint here isn't if and how they've strayed from canon, but why and how they didn't tell the final chapter of the story as well as they did the first two.
I mean thinking about it, the biggest differentiation DKR has from the other two is it is not a standalone movie. Begins and TDK you can watch completely independently of each other and they are great movies that have interconnectivity on a broader scope, this last one is basically a direct sequel to Begins and almost like an "out" for Nolan and Bale so their version of Batman isn't defiled as bad as the past ones have been (I'm looking at you Joel Schumacher)
The best live action batman: still Adam West
this thread's squabbling looks remarkably boring, I got one question, pretty straight forward:
was there anything after the credits?
