Jesus. If they could pull this kinda thing off then I'm sold ten times over. Director if FFVI, open world (hopefully) sandbox design, definitely high hopes for this one.. Really haven't been this sold on an FF title announcement in years.

    More appropriate:

Also, lol if this comes out before Versus 13.

If nothing's even officially been announced yet, I wouldn't expect XV for another 2 years or more. Sometimes I hate the internet for hearing about stuff so early in its production cycle.

Excellent points. I would like to see all of this as well.

I'm willing to part with the ability to see stuff equipped (though I did enjoy making fashion disasters in Xenoblade), since they may not want their pre-rendered cutscenes to look different than everything else. Though with their fancy new CG studio display, maybe they won't need to pre-render anything...?

the more i think about it.. the more i find the rumor dubious..

some of the dates they mention seem rather odd...

they went into full production in 2010, a month after FFXIII.. but seem to not be related to XIII in any way... but VS13 on the other hand only entered full production late last year... different dev teams yes.. but the rest of the staff are likely a pooled resource..

another thing that seems dubious.. a trademark for Final Fantasy XV was filed last month, according to USPTO. but that "Final Fantasy XV" is merely the stylized Final Fantasy X|V used for 2.0 in FF14...

that and a few other reasons that i find all this rather suspect. i'd love for an FF15... tho I don't see how they should be announcing a 15 when VS13 is not out and 14 is in shambles.. if they announced it this year I don't expect to see it out until end 2013 or early 2014.. and thats only if its current gen..

that said, I do expect to see some big announcements for the 25th anniversary.. we may get some clue as to what it is when the art exhibition rolls by (aug31-sept2), and some form of announcements at TGS which is about 3 weeks after that.
already expecting to see a lot of FF there.. FF3 PSP, FF11 SoA, FFvs13, FF14 2.0... possibly FF13-3 as well

I wont be getting excited over rumors, especially when they could just be blown up dreams that people want so badly.

All sounds great, unfortunately at the rate they're going by the time this game comes out I probably won't be able to enjoy it due to the severe cataracts, crippling arthritis, and everyone else in the nursing home making fun of me for playing a FF game.

Square needs to look back at their past products and see that quality =/= enjoyment. What made Final Fantasy so much fun in the past? It sure wasn't looking at super sex eye rape extravaganza graphics, it was the game play. User friendly systems like Job change, basic ability progression and advancement, with a more or less basic story to string everything together, and then come up with a silly end game to pump in an extra 15-30 hours at best for the content alone before the game could actually be considered complete in terms of battle related content.

Side missions are another thing I've notice been absent in 12 and 13, those alone I felt were some of the best things Final Fantasy brought to the table, didn't wanna go out and grind your dick into a cheese grater? Well go play some Chocobo Hot and Cold, or Fight Arena or Chocobo Races / Raising, engage in an open world game of Treasure Hunting. :/ All things that have gone missing since the launch of FF9, a shame really that they took a great game formula that packed so much into it and just threw you the bones and said "If you want End game content go on the PSN and start buying battles against monsters that are in the game but you can't get access to without a special line of code in your save file that says you can access it after you purchase this off the store for 2.99. Also Costumes for the people who we can really milk."

10 had a fair bit of side quests too. And 10-2 had a ton, if you count that.

Plus the logo isn't official either. I'd like to believe what they've said in that article but there isn't any validity to it all.

The site admits to the logo being fan made, personally that leads me to believe that this news might not be too terribly far fetched as opposed to them saying nothing. Not saying it's 100% legit though...just a touch more so.

Yeah there isn't any validity to it, but the timing of this "leak" coupled with the "quiet" death of Versus has me a little curious if XIV 2.0 isn't the only team within SE to have received a little shuffle, if only to allow Nomura to focus on a true Kingdom Hearts 3 for the short term while the staff mentioned takes over the Versus project and starts over. The "all-current platforms" also has me wondering if they also changed horses to allow Wii-U adoption since I remember some talk among developers after Agni's Philosophy that it could indeed run on the Wii-U.

    Edit:

Did a little digging...this might not be as far fetched as we think.

As of November 2011 Hiroyuki Ito was confirmed as still working at SE, which would of been around the time (September) Versus had entered "full production" according to Kitase. This is also the time Kitase mentioned that Versus's gameplay would be done by an engine developed specifically for the game, which we can probably now assume to be Agni's Philosophy.

At a Q&A session for The Last Story at the BAFTA headquarters in London on February 16, 2012, Hironobu Sakaguchi was asked during an autograph signing, "Which employee still at Square Enix do you feel can once again make Final Fantasy a leading and respected series in the games industry?" Sakaguchi replied, "Hiroyuki Ito."
Ito's wikipedia page also lists him as currently working on an "unannounced large-scale game".

Square also does have a habit of promoting former battle and character designers and giving them a "main" FF title.

Nomura: Debugger/Monster designer FF4/5. Monster director FF6. Promoted to Story for FF7.
Tanaka: Game Design FF2/3. Producer/Battle Designer for Xenogears, Threads of Fate, Chrono Cross. Promoted for FF11.
Matsuno: Director work on Tactics Ogre/Battle. Final Fantasy Tactics. Promoted to Story for FF12.
Yoshida: Lots of work on the Dragon Quest Monster Battle games. Promoted to Director for FF14 2.0.

Adding Ito to that list wouldn't be too surprising for a "Versus 2.0" of sorts. If the "quiet death" of Versus is indeed the path SE is taking, it could be that until the new Versus, XV, whatever is in a workable form from under the new team that Kitase was simply buying some PR, press, and stockholder time. It took XIV 2.0 6-8 months until any new ideas were readily available from Yoshida right? And that was for a "complete" and released game. Versus likely needed some, if not a LOT more polish and work after deciding to change gears. September-November 2011 would still fit within that timetable.

The January 2010 date given for "FFXV's" full production could be something along the lines of a ret-con for SE. Anyone remember when the Versus trailer finally had voices? I'm thinking this might have been the last effort of the title under the "Versus" name and was shifted along with XIV's 2.0 shift.

Also, one of the games tracks was also used in Theatrhythm. "Somnus". Kinda silly to promote a truly dead game.

A lot of this is also reliant on Versus being converted into XV. If they're two separate titles then I don't know, but I feel Ito is THE guy right now regardless.

    Just a thought.

I'm of the train of thought that Versus would be renamed XV for deviating so much from XIIIs original mythos (quite like Agito -> Type-0) and also for the fact that instead of having a bunch of games that follow the same mythos, FNC ended up being a bunch of games that follow the same character saga (Lightning).. and thus VS no longer has a fitting place in the XIII continuum. (I was of the opinion they never should have named anything FF(word)# anyway). And because it was publicized so much and played up as a flagship console FF, it makes more sense to put it as part of the main series than to create a new franchise branch just for it.

The parts that don't match up to me is how this was supposed to be Nomura's pet project. It was his first FF as director... and there never was anything wrong with it so I don't know why they'd move him elsewhere. Unless there was some kind of drastic shake up within SE (which is possible, around the time of FFXIV tanking) that caused the shift. They may have moved Nomura to work on the next KH and left Ito to handle the rest of VS13 retitled to be 15. Nomura may not be directing but everything from base story and characters were already shelled out by him...

this almost seems like a replay of FFXII's development cycle and Yasumi Matsuno leaving.

another thing about this is that VS13 actually tallies with much of what is said about this FFXV anyway.

-the game has already been in development for over 4 years.
6 is more than 4 lol

    -full production dates..
could be correct, provided someone had been lying about VS13s production schedule, which isn't impossible. Devs do that kind of thing to buy time with PR.
edit: also full production could have been started and then put on hold due to it moving away from Crystal Tools, and then resumed after a new engine was calibrated together with Luminous

-The co-director led a small part of the development team to make Tactics Ogre for the PSP in parallel with FFXV. He’s currently multi-tasking as lead UI designer of FFXIV 2.0 and co-director of FFXV.
This is Hiroshi Minagawa btw. He co-directed XII with Hiroyuki Ito after Yasumi Matsuno left the game. If anything he may just be good at picking up where others left off lol.

-game design and battle system major evolution of XII.
VS13 is open world combat, and you have 3 characters altho 2 of them seem to function almost independently when you aren't controlling them, kinda like gambits.

-game will be open world and have sprawling, crowd-filled cities on par with Assassin’s Creed.
We've seen how Noctis runs around in open world environments and interacts with vehicles and guns and stuff. Seems pretty open world. Crowd-filled cities not showcased yet tho.

-The battle system now allows you to target different parts of an enemy’s body like in Vagrant Story.
might have to do with the gun guy where he can aim at mobs and shoot them like an FPS. That'd count as targeting different parts of a body, and other systems might be in place as well.

I'd like to see how this turns out. If Versus XIII does end up becoming XV, I'd be happy, because it seems like its going on the right track for success, and I thought the whole VS naming was lame. That and I personally think a brand new XV would be a little too early in terms of being announced.

The fuck? People are now not only taking this GameFAQs-sourced bullshit seriously, but are now convincing themselves that Versus XIII is really XV in disguise?

If you want to put it that way, sure.

I actually WANT Versus XIII to disappear and become XV.

Just get rid of the stupid FF(word)XIII nomenclature already. And this opinion has existed well before this recent rumor appeared anyway.
If we are wrong, then so be it, but at least we painted a pretty convincing argument no?

Except that renaming a spin-off into a main title is a completely different thing than changing Agito XIII into Type 0 <_<
You really think there won't be an uproar if Versus suddenly shows up as XV? Seriously? At this point people are expecting something completely new from XV, they'd have to completely change Versus in that case and it really wouldn't be the same game at that point.
Again: Agito XIII> Type 0 =/= Versus XIII> XV, not by a long shot. They're remaking XIV from the ground up, rehashing a 6 years old game to make a main title doesn't seem like a smart decision at this point. Versus should stay as Versus and XV something made by a different team and there's also evidence of this.
