Imagine if some kid just came in dressed up like Bane and did some fanatic Batman fan shit in front of the crowd and some random person panicked and shot him (if half the theater was packing, it would happen after this). The person who shoots him would get life for killing an innocent.

We are better off to make them outright illegal and have extremely harsh punishments for getting caught.

Japan does it right. Fuck old laws or amendments which are outdated and ignorant.

I wish I could think like Ghandi, I do, but man kind doesn't function like that. Sometimes you have to do violence to end violence. Is that fucked up? You god Damn right it is. But so is watching a nine year old girl bleed out in your arms.

And for all the knee-jerking coming from the side that wants to ban firearms, the mirror image argument to "arm everyone!" will do little to stop tragedies like this one. These occurrences are true conundrums because they put us in a position where we want to do something (badly) to stop the situation from happening but in the process a whole slew of unintended consequences would spring forth from a world where everyone happened to be packing a handgun.

We often to complain about the common man and his inability to drive a car or educate his offspring and now we want to give everyone the ability to kill someone on command? Sure, you (the guy with training and experience) might stop a massacre but how many arguments would be kicked up a notch when two people start shooting at each other because penis waving turned into pistol waving?

It feels good in this situation to have imagined moviegoers putting holes in this guy but it's clear that the perpetrator came armed to kill and nothing was going to stop him from carrying out his act.

The reality of the situation is that most of these guns were obtained legally at a local Wal-Mart/Gun Show by people who should be getting psychiatric care..
