So there's now a follow up on the South Korean fencing debacle. They apparently have attempted to award Shin A-Lam with a consolation medal which she refused.

Nothing you can do about it? Really? Really? .... Here's an idea ... in order to save the most face, how about you leave the Gold Silver and Bronze medals exactly where they are .... then hold a special "this is us doing something about it" match between the Ukranian and Shin A-Lam .... if Shin wins ... award her a SECOND GOLD medal and put them both down as gold medal winners ... if Shin loses, give her a SECOND Silver medal and put her and the German down in the books as silver medalists. And why should they do this? Well, because, admittedly facing a shaken opponent, the Chinese competetor did have to actually put forth the effort to beat Shin (apparently it started with an 11-11 tie, so it was no cake walk) and we don't want to invalidate her Bronze (or make her fight again) ... and to prevent cyclic arguements about how the Chinese woman beat Shin, just award 4 fucking medals ... is it really that hard, hell, Judo gives out 4 by default I'm told.

100% Agree. I am American born and raised but it really disgusts me how they talk about other athletes.

The other night during one of the events.. I think it was diving too.. I wasn't paying close attention cause diving isn't one of my favorite events.. anyway.. when it was the US or Chinese turn she would always call them by their full names. There were guys from Mexico too. Whenever they were about to go she would always refer to them as just, "the Mexicans". Everytime! I was thinking; 'lol seriously?!"

No surprise the IOC is staying out of it. Sucks for her. This is why sports that have judging always makes me feel nervous watching it. Sure the athletes can mess up, but knowing there's a chance a judge or two can fuck up too...ugh.

one dude went into last round down by a long ways... knocked the dude down SIX TIMES in the final round, and the judges scored the final round a tie...

AIBA had to step in and reverse it.

oh and there just happen to have been "rumors" (a story run by the BBC) last year that the guy they tried to hand the win to's country (Azerbaijan) was being promised 2 boxing gold medals in exchange for a 10 mil loan to the ioc

Was there this much drama in Beijing? The number of cock ups seem amazing to a point that last olympics I watched a LOT of things and it seemed mostly smooth (i.e. I didn't read/hear a lot of news about judges giving weird decisions).

Not sure where the article is, but I read that the timing error was in large part because they had a 15 year old british volunteer controlling when to start and stop the clock. The volunteer was supposed to start/stop the clock when given a hand signal from the ref, and the clock being reset to 1 sec at the end was largely because the ref thought the clock hadn't been started/stopped properly earlier. Really, all the clocks are a accurate to 1/100 of a second, why not make that visible to everyone in all sports? Alot of shit can happen in 1 second, even in sport you might not expect it to. Being able to confirm on video any errors in timing would make situations like this much easier to clear up.

like above bro said women's gymnastics was some of the most corrupt shit i've seen in sports (the judging for the men's was atrocious as well), and the boxing was an absolute fucking joke the bias towards Chinese boxers was absurd

these games may have set a new bar for incompetence though. at least the Soviets aren't bribing people
