there would have to be a piece of legislation being voted on for a lobby to pay people to vote against it

I can respect that. If you knowingly do that however you lose the protection of being able to say the choice isn't about what you want though, and people are held accountable for their actions.

This controversy has been great to my diet. I never ate at chik-fil-a to begin with because by the time one moved into my town, I already knew someone personally who had worked there and heard nothing but non stop horror stories and decided I didn't want to support that kind of environment. Everyone should keep in mind that CFA isn't just anti gay marriage...they are anti gay people. They fund anti-marriage stuff, and they've been known to fund other things that support anti-sodomy laws, and even straight up re-criminalizing homosexual PDAs and homosexuality in its entirety. But anyway, my diet.

Yum! brand foods, who own KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell have their own PAC that donated to Eric Cantor's campaign. So now I've basically cut fast food out of my life entirely. My stomach is already thankful.

So good on you, bigots. You've changed my life for the better--and the inevitable granting of full rights to gay people that you have done nothing to stop these past few weeks will continue unabated, and possibly emboldened by your ridiculous and childish clinging to the one tiny bit of power you have left: Your choice of chicken sandwich. Truly, a force to be reckoned with.

Dude was actually asked directly if he would hire a gay person and replied that "it depends on the situation," apparently blissfully unaware that discrimination on sexual orientation is illegal... if anyone can actually prove it happened he could actually get some negative reaction to this finally.

(yes, I know people here *think* he's getting a negative reaction, but a whole lot more nutcases are going out of their way to support it than reasonable people are choosing to avoid it)

I'm sure he is currently enjoying the record sales. Fairly sure his business will continue unabated for many a year as well.

I am having a hard time assuming reasonable people ate there in the first place.

I do think that this whole thing has hurt LGBT more than helped. According to the news lines were fucking crazy over this. Meaning CFA probably got more money out of this from people who were like "LEAVE MY CHICKEN ALONG GAYS"

    sucks

yeah, I can't see how a community would think openly boycotting a fast food restaurant over an issue with a lot of controversy around it would be beneficial at all.

I like how people saying "wow im not going to give money to a company so obviously against my own self-interests" is somehow a revolutionary or radical idea.

So, was it worth it? Wouldn't it have been better to just say "These people donate to the anti gay agenda, if you support us then please consider one of their competitors next time you want a quick meal" rather then "Go there and you're a bigot. Protest the shit out of them!"

i dunno who is saying it's revolutionary or radical, unless you mean me, and by my post I just meant it's kind of silly to take a public stance against not getting something you maybe get once or twice a year. the other side will obviously go and get it just because you've brought it to their attention that it upsets you and supports their beliefs. :S

I also like how in the year 2012, we apparently still don't understand that the success of a social movement is not combat that is "won" in discreet increments. You don't win by "winning" the most battles, or scoring the most points. Whether CFA comes out of this ahead in profits or not is frankly irrelevant, and thinking it does just exposes a very American mentality that money is the only true measure of success--personal, moral, cultural, political, whatever. This whole fiasco has drawn more attention to LGBT issues, has put more eyes on the arguments, and has forced more people to pick a side based on what they are seeing. That is a tremendous success for LGBT rights no matter what happens to CFA, because the battle is a battle over public consciousness, not cutting into the profits of a fast food chain.

The awareness still counts for something and the brand damage is lasting. As long as easy alternatives exist it's no effort at all to stop eating Chik Fil A, an easy thing to do that makes the world marginally better, not unlike recycling one aluminum can. Low hanging fruit, etc; The practical point of the anti CFA messages online is not to change the world or drive them out of business. At least, not the ones spread by the sane people.

and the alternative is apathy toward something that is very personal to them. You can't blame people for being upset and acting the way they are here

I only disagree it being a success, because I feel the attention drawn is more negative towards LGBT than positive. It has forced more people to pick the side against LGBT rights.

I am not surprised people are protesting, and I'm not saying they shouldn't. Just that this was a battle lost

    That right there.

Not really about how I'm perceived, cause quite honestly who gives a shit about you (most definitely not the people who went and supported chik fil a the other day)? I saw a lot of people the other day who went to eat some good fucking chicken, not because they're against the lgbt community, but just because of how belligerent some people are being with this.

Idk, I just find it sad that instead of making people want to like the lgbt community, and therefor people treat them equally just because "hey I like you bud", they want to force people to treat them equally all the while mocking them and generally giving them a reason to dislike them. That right there is a big "wtf?" to me. Maybe I'm too nice a guy...

I am going off that there seems to be a lot more attention towards eating at cfa because of it than protesting. Hey I could be wrong, but that's definitely the impression I've been getting. People don't want you to mess with their food. America is fats
