Going about finding a roommate

Sooo...I'm looking to move out some time soon, but can't afford an apartment on my own at the moment. I'm going back to school, and plan on using some of my refund to afford housing; which means I'm looking to move out in one to two months. I've never actually lived on my own so far, so I don't really know the best way to go about it. Any one have any tips on finding a roommate, where to do so, ways to avoid the crazies, etc. Tried looking on craigslist, but I'm weary and there aren't many listings in my area (coral springs, fl).

See if your school has a service that lists housing/people looking for roommates. My school runs a service like that for free, where people post ads about places they're living in, looking for roommates, etc.

Also a lot of families that live near campuses offer rooms to students. A friend of mine did that. Stayed with a nice near-elderly couple for his first two years.

I actually found a decent room to rent last year off craigslist. The only downside was one guy moved out and then another guy moved in and he peed all over the bathroom floor every night. Living with people you don't know can end up being really bad so don't sign a one year lease with some dude you just met.

I also once found a Stanford professor from one of the schools here that rented out a couple of rooms in his house on craigslist. Sometimes you can find decent listings like that.

Yes. Yes, I did. He apologized, said he would try to be more careful, continued to pee on the floor. He was 30. I moved out a month later and got my own apartment.

Funny you post that because I stayed for a week at a friend's house and she had a rule where nobody was allowed to stand and piss in her house and that if I were caught I'd be kicked out immediately and no ride to the airport, fend for myself etc. (and she was 100% serious).

I've lived with women a couple of times. It doesn't make a bit of difference unless you're all weird with each other, which is a separate problem entirely.

Living with other people is all about the ability to communicate and respect the other person's feelings. You gotta be able to tell your room mate to do the dishes more often and take out the recycling. You gotta be able to respect it when your room mate says you gotta be quieter at night or you need to vacuum.

Neither do I, and CS knows as much, as he's been to my place. It's two women and two men, and we don't have a problem. Then again, I don't give a fuck if the guys wander around shirtless and in their boxers. Even if a dick flops out (which hasn't happened, but if it did), what the fuck do I care? I'm not a child.

Any problems that you can have with roommates aren't gender-dependent. Men and women can both be filthy fuckers. You just need to not be a pussy and handle things when shit happens.
