My heart goes out to the police involved. It must be heart-wrenching to sign up to protect and serve, and then be asked to kill instead. This is clearly a case of society failing their brave defenders. I can only hope more steps are taken in the future to prevent the discrimination against police officers demonstrated by this mob, and by certain bigots in this thread.

you've mixed up 2 different events there was no "bring", the first cop riot was in the neighborhood where they murdered that unarmed dude. the 2nd was at night near city hall.

Why not? I don't think they were expecting the cops to start shooting them. In general, protests are only as dangerous as you want them to be. It's usually not difficult to avoid situations that are obviously going to be risky.

You mite be there to peacefully protest but some others could have different ideas. It doesn't matter that you didn't think anything would happen. You should never, never bring your kids into a high risk situation like that. Even if it's only a couple people in the crowd that start antagonizing the police and throwing rocks or whatever they will assume it's everybody.

Protests aren't all high risks. if people were throwing rocks at the cops, then the kids should have left, but otherwise cops don't usually just start shooting without provocation, or warning.

edit: taking kids to a protest isn't really a bad idea. Not being prepared to watch for signs of things getting out of hand, and being ready to take your kid and bolt at any time is a very bad idea.

The idea of unarmed police officers is ridiculous; does no one remember the North Hollywood shootout? The guys had body armor and the cops just had 9 MM handguns and couldn't hurt them. This led to cops all around the nation AT THE VERY LEAST keeping higher caliber weapons in their vehicle, if not on their person, at all times. Its nice and all that the UK police can manage with pepper spray and tazers, but they're living on borrowed time. Its only a matter of time before they're caught with their pants down versus someone with a couple assault rifles, body armor, and a thousand rounds of ammo.
