It could be that Dalamud shooting out those things activates the Crystal Tower under Mor dhona to come up. The new GC lore that was posted today on the site mentions people witnessing things shooting up from the ground toward Dalamud. The 2.0 art shows some stuff doing this as well. So, while Dalamud does seem to be shooting things out to the ground, it's also pulling up stuff too.

I think Reve might have been right with assuming these splinters (of which there are many sticking out of Dalamud in all directions) are going to be what ultimately fucks up/alters the landscape across Eorzea, and probably sets up a main dungeon, high-level monster locale, or Primal home in each zone (a la Zelda). We'll probably be seeing a different element massive pillar of sorts on the horizon in each element-relevant area (ice pillar sticking out of the snowy mountains, jutting stone pillar sticking out of O'Ghomoro, etc.). Shiva is probably hanging out in/near the one in the background of the Behemoth.

The Crystal Tower will probably rise from the ground to meet/link with Dalamud in some sort of erotic fashion.

I'm looking at this Dalamud catastrophe most like the Lunar Cry from FF8 and the choice of music really enforces this.

I just want beta info. And I hope most of the Legacy folks get access to the closed ones. Who better to test your game and provide feedback than the people who have been pplaying your game and providing feedback since day 1.

Legacy doesn't affect your beta chances, sorry bro.

I'd be very, very shocked if they didn't extend beta invites to everyone who purchased XIV. It would be a bad way to start off the 2.0 experience. The people who would best be able to determine what is going right with 2.0 are those who determined what went wrong with 1.0.

It doesn't give you 100% chance to get into the beta, but it increases your chances.

The beta will consist of ~75% legacy players and will happen around October for NA/EU.

I seem to recall (but cannot find) somewhere that Yoshi-P said he would like to prioritize beta slots for existing players (note: not Legacy, but everyone). This was probably just talking about open beta, however. They'll probably just shoot an email out to everyone on their XIV mailing list when the time comes... though that's probably more stress than their beta server can handle, hmm.

Take with a grain of salt, going off memory, etc. etc.

Do they ever have more than one beta server up? I guess that's entirely up to them.

Huh, Yoshi straight up said otherwise, that it does not affect your beta chances.

Sorry, when I said legacy I meant currently existing players. I didn't meant to imply players that have Legacy status.

Note that I did not capitalize legacy in my post. Bad wording on my part. Sorry for the confusion.

Is there a quote from Yoshi that explicitly states beta will consist of 75% current players? Or is this your assumption?

Does anyone know if the version of the crystal theme (i think thats what it is) that plays in the new trailer is available anywhere? I think the music in the trailer got me more excited than anything. :X

im thinking similarly.. but more in the way that the splinters, or rather Dalamud itself was supposed to have some sort of purpose as a tool of the Allagans.
this would tie up with the crystal tower allagan story.. and i'm guessing the splinters have to do with aether and crystal as well and will be causing destruction and changes to aetheryte/etc in other areas..

i think the primals were all already around, but maybe hidden.. so all this terraforming makes them easier to get to

It sounds a lot like the version from the Distant Worlds concert series.

hmm well, hope the "bought ffxiv" people will have a decent chance to get to try ffxiv, as those are the people originally interested in ffxiv to begin with, and would be potential customers to get back to playing ffxiv 2.0 . Considering trying to target people that have yet to play FFXIV, thats been bombarded with "OMG GAME IS FAIL" wouldn't really even think of trying FFXIV 2.0 most likely.

Looking forward to trying ffxiv 2.0 myself to see all the changes, as I was pretty interested in ffxiv before the massive amount of botting made it less then fun in a way ;/

i was under the impression that the 1.0 servers would shut down and everyone who owned the game would automatically be entered into the beta. it seems like everyone is thinking different things.

anyone actually have a source or actual quotes from the producer as to what will happen?

Man, not letting everyone into the beta after the 1.0 servers are down would be The Worst Thing™ for FFXIV. I dunno about anyone else, but I nearly stopped playing the game entirely after the two weeks the servers were shut down for the Tsunami-quake thing in Japan.

Once people are forced to find other ways to spend their time, some of them are likely never to return.

I'm almost certain there was something said about wanting to bring in new people over older, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. With that said, here was a snippet from the Gamer Escape interview that's relevant:

GE: Speaking of Beta, will there be downtime between current game and 2.0?

Yoshida: What’s going to happen is that after the current version is finished and storyline over, the servers will go down and the 2.0 beta will start up. We want to make sure we don’t make the same mistake as before, and want to be sure we have enough time not only for the beta test but also to get feedback from the players and leave enough time to implement that feedback. Also, keep in mind that transferring the characters to the new servers and systems could take up to a month. So that process will be running while the beta test is in place. There can’t be a launch immediately after the current servers are shut down.

GE: So the beta test and current game will not be operating simultaneously?
Yoshida: No. Because we need the time to convert the data from the current version to the new version, we can’t have people keep playing because they will keep updating their data. That doesn’t mean we are not going to work hard to make sure the servers aren’t down for a long time. We know that the community is there and want to maintain that community.

GE: How much downtime do you expect between the end of the beta test and the launch 2.0?

Yoshida: It won’t be anything like the next day, but we hope to have it be as short as possible. We need enough time to make sure everything is right and start it smoothly.

GE: Do you have any ideas yet on how will people get into beta?

Yoshida: We decided not to tie it directly to the legacy campaign, but we want to prioritize getting the current players that are playing now into beta.
Something else I never noticed was him saying Beta will not run concurrent with 1.0. I'm inclined wonder which beta he's referring to at that point, but there's no need to delve back into that discussion.

I remember Yoshi saying something about 1.0 and the 2.0 beta running concurrently at some point if there was a demand for it (paraphrasing), either I'm remembering it wrong or it was an old interview and since decided against.

I'd imagine keeping both going simultaneously would be doable, as the 2.0 client should be running on completely new servers (if not, we may as well give up now).

edit: It might have had to do with the closed beta only, don't recall the post that well

It was either 4gamer or gamewatch but he did do a follow up with the gamersescape quote saying exactly what you are saying. He hasn't made a definite timeline of when 1.0 servers will be shut down and it will be based on the feedback they get during Alpha/Early Beta. All he could confirm is that at some point the 1.0 servers will shut down and it will be well before the 2.0 client releases so they have plenty of time to port people over and it would come as soon as he felt 2.0 servers were ready enough to warrant the 1.0 servers closing.
