Shantoto references in this mother fucker, is XI the only game with her in it? Not including XIV's references?

Shantoto is a playable character in Dissidia.
i dont think your brother is particularly representative of a whole bunch of people tho. but i suppose the same people who buy into RPGs for their commercials which mainly show FMVs and not gameplay would be taken in (and there are actually quite a lot of those lol).
other FFXI originals include the XI design of the Mandragora, which is also in XII, and I think has been found in the dats. XI's Goblin design, Qiqirn, Garuda as a summon, Opo Opo, Goobbue... the list is actually quite long
Good grief. All this ranting over a single first trailer. You will get to see gameplay in due time. I think everyone wants to see gameplay, and of course we will all get to see it in due time. There's plenty of time to show that stuff. For now just enjoy what you got.
Those shitty wolves who don't really look like wolves at all.
I really hope they have a LOT of old school FF enemies in by 2.0, it's looking like they'll have a pretty good selection.
For some reason, I immediately thought of these: http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy...snatchFFIX.png
Give me giant HD pink dog things pls.
Probably going to end up splitting hairs on this one, but what references are there to Shantotto in XIV? I know there's a mention of Gem of Shatotto, but that's not the same name.
People are treating as a reference though.
It's close enough and it's Black Mage related. We have to assume it's a subtle reference/homage.
Shatotto was a very powerful female black mage of the past (and I believe it's even mentioned she was a Lalafell) and she's the former wielder of the BLM relic weapon. Even the achievement for getting the relic is called "Ohohohohoh!". It's obviously a reference.
Doubt the reference if you like, but the Localizers gave a vague hint regarding the name. Whether or not it actually refers to Shantotto or not is, of course, up for debate. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post688863
The other thing that references her in FFXIV is the name of the Achievement for getting the BLM relic weapon: "Ohohohohohohoho!" -- blarg, beaten to the punch on that.Originally Posted by Eemeefu
Nevermind should have refreshed the page! Well I guess that clears up me asking why they haven't fixed the text error. Also, I was unaware relic weapons even had named achievements, or if I did I forgot <_<.
I would love it if they bring Shantotto into FFXIV. "Oh-hohohohoho!".
Pretty much all my friends let out a resounding yawn at this trailer. It appears it's gonna take something more than a cgi trailer to get the stench of failure off this title.
Even when FFXIV was at its worst, graphics were NEVER one of the complaints aimed at it. So a pretty CGI movie for the "fixed, better, honest" version of the game, and a website full of buzzwords shows us absolutely nothing about the parts we actually care about... how is it better? How are people supposed to get excitied? Oh, you did a gorgeous CGI trailer, SE? Never seen that before, I am so intrigued.
The fact is, SE ought to know this... and that they're rolling it all out anyway makes people wary that they haven't changed at all.
I am patently astonished at the amount of ridicule leveled at the trailer.
It's going to take more than a CG trailer? No kidding? Golly gee, Wally, we sure would have been in trouble without someone here to tell us that. You're always lookin' out for us, Wally.
The existence of this CG-only trailer... has been known... for months.
(>.> ) I think some posters forgot their morning cup of java when replying to this thread.

Keep your fucking panties on.
Why is everyone in an uproar because they let us see bits of this CGI intro that everyone has known they have been sitting on for a while now?
They just showed us 2.0 gameplay screenshots a few weeks ago. This typical CGI-onry trailer is not the be all and end all of XIV marketing material. It's just some story-hype for those who care about it.
Nope this is it.
This trailer is all we're ever going to see EVER.
EVER!
The next trailer will be this trailer looped 3 times. Then they will ask for your money for 2.0.
So I looked over the 2.0 site. Clicking through the different links I only found one interesting thing. If you click the link to explore city states and regions, then select Uldah, at the bottom are some screen shots. The first shows a picture of Uldah where you can see a huge crater is part of the city now, and part of the broken wall extends out and hangs over it. The second one is a statue and I can't really tell much about it, but the third shows train tracks and a road crossing them. Of course this piqued my interest to check out other cities, but Grid and Limsa look pretty much the same in the ss on their pages...
Maybe after 2.0 Uldah will be just as much of a gagglefuck as the other cities? Sweet.
The trailer left me thoroughly flaccid, too short, smash/cut frenzy, and an overly campy voice over.
An action packed seizure that will probably alienate people that haven't played 1.0 as a bunch of nonsense is thrown at you in mashup form.
"oh but it's just the first trailer blah blah etc", yea, shut up, first impressions matter, especially when you're gambling everything on a second first impression.
Sidenote: fucking time travel, my heart sank the moment it was even implied and I really hope it's a one-time deal to mitigate the 2.0 revisions. I've had my fill of time travel bullshit and I don't want to see it become to the go-to explanation for pulling plot out of any available orifice.
