NASA to broadcast MARS landing live at Times Square

A couple weeks ago, we learned that NASA had created a Kinect-enabled game for XBLA to simulate landing the Mars Rover Curiosity on, well, Mars.

Well, the American space agency is going to be live-broadcasting the real Curiosity’s actual descent onto the red planet on Monday, August 5. The stream requires the download of the streaming video player app for the Xbox 360, but you’ve got plenty of time to get yourself ready: the landing is scheduled to take place in about two and a half days as of this posting, at 8:30 p.m. Pacific, 11:30 p.m. Eastern, on Monday, August 5.

All the stuff you need to get your console prepped for the stream is on the front page of the Xbox’s dashboard screen, but just in case you need more help, check out Major Nelson’s post about it.

What are you complaining about? Its not like this is new, we've been to mars before. Sure we have a shiney new toy there, doing shiney new experiments, but I'm not getting excited till I see the results of said experiments.

Right now, this is just par for course rock landing, nothing to bounce off the walls for. Id be more pissed if nasa wasn't doing something like this, its what we pay them to do.

i wonder how many people are/will watch this, and man do i hope everything goes right. If all goes well, this is exactly what NASA needs imo. Public landings of significance again, to try to get people interested in space, like in the 60s, especially with the current state of our space program
