It's that time of year again. Buying textbooks sucks, share info in here.

So classes start up later this month. Sadly with Megaupload and other sites getting shit canned it seems a lot of my usual sites are gone for textbooks. Anyone know of any good places to check around on? I've checked Undernet/Ebookz on IRC but sadly no hits there.

Even willing to buy books off people here, but sure as fuck not paying the prices the book store wants.

So happy I graduated now. RIP Megaupload.

Also, do you really need those books? I never bought a single book for my major classes, just for the random stupid crap I had to take for requirements.

As for links, I don't have any at the moment, but I can go through my old list and see if any are still working when I get back from work.

edit: Wait, have classes even started yet? How can you know if you need the books or not already?

Maybe he's some guy that likes to have all the books before classes start and buys them always regardless of if the teacher says you need them. Personally, I don't wait until a week after classes begin to get all the books, pretty much.

I never buy books before the first day of class anymore after spending ~$200 to find out that the prof changed his mind.

Make sure you check out what books are offered on Kindle as well. I saved $30 on a CS textbook last quarter (I wanted to keep the book though).

I typically do the same, however last semester I had a class that had 2 assignments due that same week and ended up having to buy a 300$ book. Luckily it was on a grant.

This semester I've got an iPad for me and letting my sister use my laptop, so I plan to get everything digitally that I can for the both of us. I haven't had much luck though so far with ebookee or whatever its called though. Hopefully I'll find some pdfs or something.

Along the lines of what boyiee was commenting on, what do people generlly pefer for their books, a laptop or tablet? Plan on getting something here in a couple of weeks, still can't decide which route to go.

I don't plan on doing desktop stuff with a laptop, but if I had one I would (multitask, games, etc). If I had a tablet though id just treat it like a gint cell phone, so I really don't cae which route I go.

I used Coursemart when I was going to college. It was cheaper than purchasing a book at the university. Link: http://www.coursesmart.com
Here's link to the books you have posted:
For ISBN#: 9780071771573: Not on Coursesmart, but here is a similar book that you could compare prices, http://www.coursesmart.com/linux-gui.../9781418837211
    For ISBN #: 9780131367364: http://www.coursesmart.com/a-practic.../9780137083251
For ISBN#: 9780470487327: http://www.coursesmart.com/introduct.../9780470487327 *I am not sure if this comes with the CD, since this is a digital rental*

I would wait until the first day of class at least to purchase your books. You might be able to get around without having to own/rent a copy of the book.

If torrents don't have the book you need, ABEBooks.com is a good alternative.

Teacher is requiring some online shit (only comes with a new book and I'm gonna get an older edition that doesn't come with it used for 6 bucks instead of $150)

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/032...F8&me=&seller=

Anyone know where I'd be able to get this cheaper?

Edit: Found a new international version that comes with Mastering for cheaper than mastering alone, so I guess I'll get that

Totally forgot about this thread till just now. I don't know if I NEED the books but I like to get them just incase to be prepared, but im not paying a dime for this shit. I never really use the books, most professors are pretty good about doing powerpoints and notes online but sometimes I like to read up on the information when it comes to my networking classes. Though if I cant find the textbook I sure as hell can find another book about the same subject or just go to Borders and read it there.

Well only book it looks like I am missing now is:

Michael E. Whitman, Herbert J. Mattord, and Andrew Green, Guide to Firewalls and VPNs, Third Edition. Course Technology, Cengage Learning, 2012, ISBN-13 978-1-111-13539-3.

Can't find it on ebooks/bookz, on IP torrents or Warezbb. That piratelibrary link is still down and so is demonoid sadly >_<

Moved to librarypirate.ph BUT it isn't allowing some people to sign in for whatever reason. I've found almost all my books in their search but cant sign in to download the torrent. irritating.
