Been a long time since I read LaVey's Satanic Bible, but:
- You're right in that it purports to be non-theistic: Satan doesn't exist, this is a philosophy and so on... at least, it book 1. Book 2+ are straight-up demon-summoning formulae that wouldn't feel out of place in (and are probably ripped directly from) Ars Goetia.
- It does have some decent points, and it is a lot more compatible with a modern secular mindset than monotheisms... but everything is a lot more compatible with a modern secular mindset than monotheisms.
- As a philosopher, LaVey doesn't pass muster; surrounded by brilliant minds such as Hume, Kant, Sartre or the obvious Nietzsche, he seems a dwarf.
As a result, The Satanic Bible is mostly good for a laugh.
Luciferianism is even funnier, if sometimes quite erudite; see Temple of the Black Light (Jon Nödtveidt, Dissection's vocalist/leader was a member) for instance.
