Lucas is just an asshole. When he was working on the Last indiana jones movie, he wanted to put aliens in it. Spielberg told him fuck no, no aliens, gtfo. Lucas kept pushing it and Spielberg kept saying no fucking way. So Lucas calls him up and says, "Ok... instead of aliens... How about we have inter-dimensional beings instead?" So spielberg finally said fuck it, and the crystal skull was born!

The aliens weren't what hurt Kingdom of the Crystal skull. The dull dialogue, stilted performances, somewhat lackluster action, and languid pace was what hurt the film.

And too much CGI. That whole jungle scene could have been shot on location and looked much better(actors having a sword fight over 2 jeeps dealing with actual foliage would have looked more entertaining than what we got). The car chase scene after Indy and Mutt have to leave the bar and was shot on scene looked familiar to something you'd see in the old Indiana Jones because it was shot on location, not on a green screen and it was actually awesome.

I actually had 0 issues with Mutt till they got to that terrible fucking jungle, and he somehow knows swordplay + the whole swinging with monkeys thing.

Dialogue was what disappointed me most. I just felt like it lacked the wit and snappiness of the previous films.

That was the exact moment you could feel the temperature in the theater change.

I remember seeing the Crystal Skull. My wife and I were at the beach, it was raining. We decided to go see it.

Movie starts, hot rod tearing down the street. As a car guy and an American Graffiti fan, I was cool with it.

That was where the movie peaked, it was all downhill from there. Is it that hard to just make an action movie with real stunt work and a simple plot?

Shia Lebouf would've been a sufficient enough reason

The Hand Of Thrawn trilogy would have made the best Episode 7,8,9. It'll never happen, but the books play out like films to me, I would have much rather seen aging actors reprising roles they were too old for than the prequels we got.

Problem with a lot of movies these days is too much reliance on special FX on not enough reliance on grit, stunts, and story.

Been like that for a long time. Unique and artistic movies are hard to make, and hard to produce and market. If anything, though, the number of exceptional films has only gone up over the years as the medium has become more accessible and the business end more robust. There's always an ebb and flow in quality, but overall it's trended steadily upwards. We're probably approaching another revival of experimentation in hollywood pretty soon here. The Indie scene is only getting bigger as technology gets cheaper and more powerful/accessible, too. You could shoot a decent looking movie on a cellphone these days.

I hate sounding like a know it all, but the 3 books with Thrawn in them (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command) are not the "Hand of Thrawn" trilogy. I'm not sure if they actually have a name, hence why everything that came after specifically names itself as "The Dark Jedi Trilogy" or whatever. Hand of Thrawn was a two book "duolgy" (Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future), and were on par with the other three books by Zahn.

The point of this know it all moment is that you should read the first Thrawn books by Zahn, then read the two Hand of Thrawn books. And then, like me, never touch another EU book.
