regarding the admiral, from other storylines i've seen, it's mentioned that a new admiral is chosen every year after some crazy races, and merlwyb was the latest winner. I think it was mentioned in the war questline.
So i'm guessing the races were held recently, which means the change in pronouns is canon, not ninjafix.![]()
Now I've seen a vid, I went back and had a look at the concept art to see how it compares.
The Aytherite area: Link
The Chocobo stables we see: Link
Area map: Big pic link
The video either takes place at 1, with that being the Aetheryte we see, making the choco stables the area above it. Or it takes place at 2, with the chocobo symbol being where these stables are. That means the aetheryte has either been moved since this concept map, or there's more than one per zone? Either way, what they've produced holds up *really* well to the concept art. And I'm very excited to see the rest of the zone!
About Ishguard, it's clearly shown on the concept map still: Big pic link
Also to note is that the Behemoth form the cinematic is shown (3) and I'd guess the missing picture at 4 is the destroyed area people mistook for Ishguard? Since it points to an area with snow covered pine trees.
All speculation, but I love it! I haven't followed FFXIV in a long time, so let me know if I've put the pieces together wrong because I'm so out of date!
Did anyone else notice the chat box didn't seem to be a movable part of the UI?
I wonder if the presentation tomorrow is going to be any different.
Yeah, it's a race called the Trident (or something like it). However, it was ninja fixed as even when we had Merlwyb, a lot of the npcs still referred to the Admiral as a male, both on my Gridanian main and my Limsa-breed Lala. I've already completed the Limsa story on my alt but I'd wager that if you were to do so now, the admiral would still be a dude in the storyline text.
New article from Gamewatch. Hopefully someone can translate and see if something is new. One thing they did show was that the walkthrough was live by showing the rig setup they were using to control the characters. Also showed concept art for the new Titan :D. Rest is just off camera pictures of the same walkthrough we already saw.

Google translate doesn't seem to show up anything very interesting. It does say, "In addition, we have provided full-fledged PvP will be the first series. The course content has been prepared a lot, not only do core players like PvP, players can enjoy in the public area for casual."
But I haven't followed FFXIV news in a while, so PvP info might be old hack too.
Quickly:
- August 15th was a 'business day', and hence was only open to the media and (I'm assuming) disturbers. Tomorrow onwards it will be open to the public with up to three demonstrations a day, but it will cover the same topic/information.
- Gold Saucer confirmed as a 'casino' area, but will not be available immediately after launch. It will be implemented in the future.
- Confirmed avatars available for summoning/will be in story: Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Leviathan, Shiva, Odin.
- Lots of content available in public areas for casual users.
- The 'Limit Break' system is indeed the replacement for the Battle Regimen.
- The demonstration was done through a private server located in Japan, played by Mocchi behind the stage at the Gamescom presentation.
- The specs for the computer running the demonstration was a 'high-performance desktop PC' (by today's standards). They did add that there will be no problem running the game smoothly if you can run the current FFXIV, however.
- The BLM Limit Break was, matter-of-factly, Meteor.
- Yoshi-P explains that the reason behind SE's decision to forgo an release of an official gameplay video was in part due to him not being totally satisfied with the current quality and to avoid neglecting the Japanese users/playerbase. He also adds: "please look forward to the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event".
I guess this is it for the next 2 weeks then.
they are withholding official gameplay footage until they fix the grass
Hmmm, no confirmed Lightning Primal? I hope Odin isn't the lightning Primal. I mean, yea Raiden, but Odin's usually non-elemental.
What I really wanna know is if picking a God at character creation will mean a God Damn thing besides getting a piece of equipment. People may whinge about Racials occasionally, but stuff like that is the only way to base your choice on something other than aesthetics or statistically insignificant stat ratios.
Is SE one of the few companies that makes a big deal about content that won't be in the game at launch? I don't remember Trion or Arenanet ever going on about amazing content that would be out in a future patch and not at launch.
Yes, the Japanese are the most neglected people in existence.
Whatever, SE. >_>
