30 hours will certainly draw some ire if it's pure tutorial. I suspect that players will be accessible within the game world, and be able to interact with the other members of the community, thus make it not a big deal. Honestly, the more tutorial the better, so long as it's not overly intrusive.

These are MMO players we're talking about, so this part is crucial. I suspect the 30-hour mark was supposed to be for people new to MMOs in general.

No official date specified yet. There will be some period of time between 1.0 and 2.0, but they haven't been terribly clear on how long that will be.

Yoshi-P has said that he would like that period to be a short as possible, however. The only concrete thing he's said on it though is that porting over character data will take around a month.

As I've mentioned before, a period of no service (beta or otherwise) would be The Worst Thing for the game. Once you force MMO players off of their addiction for any period of time, there will be a number of them that may never return. I almost stopped playing FFXIV after the 2-week downtime from the Tsunami-earthquake. Luckily, 2.0 has some huge hype behind it, so they probably won't lose too many.

Couldn't agree more. Took some time off when 13-2 came out and when I returned a week or two later, had no desire to play and ended up breaking for a month or two. That said, returning to 2.0 will be different (for me) and I'm sure I'll have no problems getting the desire to return

Yeah, if you want to get specific, I believe it was something along the lines of "We expect it to take no longer than a month." I don't remember where the quote was from however, so I can't confirm. I just say a month to keep unrealistic expectations at bay.

Would be nice of them to just leave a version of the beta servers up for awhile for people to dick around in while they wait. Having a game go completely offline for any period over a few days is just... ugh...

Even if it turns out alright in the end, it just feels creepy, right?

They confirmed that before the event. Said beta signups + Autograph session later on. Had a similar thing happen at Japan Expo last month in Paris.

Somewhere I picked up the understanding (so I may be wrong) that beta would start immediately as the servers shut down -- but with us only able to create new characters. After a month (or whenever it's done) our 1.0 characters will be made available in the beta as it continues. I'm sure they'll want very through testing on if the character conversion process had any problems.

It's ok, I only skimmed it. Was fairly interesting. Not too hype though but it's not in me to get hype until I actually buy the game. Sure do want to be a Dragoon though. Just by seeing it I feel tough/badass.
