One thing I want to see in 2.0 that hasn't really been addressed or we have seen anything about (as far as I know), is some update on spellcasting.
In most games, if you're casting something and you move, it immediately cancels the spell and you can go into another action. Or if you're running and you stop you can immediately start casting a spell. I really want to see if they are able to get rid of this 2 second delay between stopping and being able to cast, or cancelling a spell or moving and starting to be able to cast a new spell. Personally it just makes the game feel sluggish.
That's part of the issue with the current servers not updating positioning frequently. On your screen you're not moving but to the server you're still registered in motion because it hasn't updated.
This shit is going to be under a microscope soon as people get into Alpha/Beta.
^ That right there is my main concern with 2.0. It can look pretty all it wants, but if it's still aggravating to play, I'm gonna be disappoint.
Not sure if this has been posted yet.. Pretty good stuff

"The current battle system that we have right now is based on TP and the TP fills as you fight. The biggest thing that is going to be different here is that the TP guage will be full when you start combat so you can use skills and weapons right off the bat. And so, in addition to that, the combo system will change and the battles will be more action-oriented because you'll be able to use all of these things from the beginning."
In the newest video posted in this thread, you can see what looks like some sort of global cooldown on weaponskills. There are 2 skills he uses that send 5 different slots into a 3-ish second reload.
Hoping I get into the Alpha/Beta. You know we're gonna get that Fight Club going on again, hopefully this time it'll be NDA-free. lol
That sounds about right, they also might want to test higher end content and what better way to test it then doing it on our old characters where we already have many high level classes. My guess is they will just be like current MMO test servers, a copy of your current official character, but what you do on the test server will not transfer to the live game. And like you said, the servers will shut down, current players get into closed beta where we test the new starter experience and leveling a character from lvl 1 to 50, and then later on after the characters are converted they test the conversion with a copy and test high end raids and PvP.
gah i'm trying explain to some people about yoshida's background in gaming but i can't find anything here.
anyone remember or can point me to an interview? i remember he played daoc/EQ and did the card game thing but that's about it.
From my past rummaging, the only title that he worked on that's even worth mentioning was, I think, Dragon Quest: Swords.
I always wondered how, of all people they could have hired, they picked this young gun. I have no complaints, just seems so... unlikely.
edit: I guess he only really worked on Dragon Quest Monster Battle Road arcade games.
From what i remember, he was head of Square dev team #3 or 4, and had hands in Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and a lot of the FFXI expansions.
Edit: While not necessarily at the head of said teams at the time (he is the head now) but 3 is the team responsible for Chrono Cross and Xenogears.
Almost sure that was Matsui.
He was picked because he's an MMO player, he has played quite a few of them.
Edit: And obviously he also had experience before. Either way this is a huge career opportunity for him and SE had nothing to lose at this point. If he's successful he'll be a huge name in one of the biggest franchises in gaming and will surely lead any future FF online team, that's enough to give it all you've got no?
That feel when the potential for 2.0 could be endless but it will be held back by the already archaic PS3.
but it won't.
