Still, it is a new engine, new server farms, majority of new assets. It is almost a new game. Sorry, but I think your point was bad in this case. It's not a patch, it's not an upgrade and not an expansion.

2.0 Has only been in development for almost 2 years. And if we can believe that interview that was posted somewhere saying less than 10% of 1.0's assets were used in 2.0 I would have to say it's understandable for it to have issues especially in an pre-alpha build. My hat comes off for those in the office who had to redesign a game from the ground up that they had just finished making on another tight schedule. For what they have done in the time they have been given I'm not gonna be too mad about random glitches in the alpha but it does warrant it's own concerns about how they are approaching things. I only have one gripe with the game currently but other than that everything in the video I saw was good in my minds eye of allowable error. (I just don't like the chocobos appearing out of no where same with 1.0's)

    indeed.

they weren't kidding when they said the game would be reworked from ground up. It is practically unrecognizable next to the original and if you asked any random person who sees both games in action and doesn't know better, he'd probably tell you they're entirely different, because they really are.

Only thing that has stayed the same are player and monster models, which are probably built on a shared medium that it can be imported from.

I wonder if SE didn't start working (or at least planning) on 2.0 before they actually made it public. It takes like 5+ years to make a new mmorpg from the ground. Now I know they didn't exactly start from scratch but still, thats quite a lot of work. Also, I just can't imagine SE didn't realize they were going nowhere good with their product approaching the alpha version.

Things I noticed more in this video:

    • Emotes on action bar
    • Global cooldown on weaponskills
    • Weaponskills look to take between 100 and 200 TP
    • TP regen is 30/tick in battle, 100/tick out of battle
    • Auto-attack does not seem to increase TP at all, so it's purly a timer mechanic?
    • Right-click interact/invite menu

They started working/planning on 2.0 in Jan 2011. One would imagine they might have taken about a month to assemble a new team, so the idea of redeveloping the game was probably set in motion around Dec 2010. Thats about 3 months after 1.0 launched and flopped, and they probably realized that if they needed to fix it, they'd have to do something very drastic.

Truth be told, if XIV sucked but somehow magically sold well, i don't think 2.0 would have happened, even if they would continually improve it. stuff like this is always driven by profit.

2 years is definitely a very short time for a game of this scale, but they were able to skip past a lot of the pre-production phase. Concept and scenario planning work was probably at a minimal, since they'd already established the races, nations, cultures, world, etc. They took 3 months to compile their findings on what screwed up in 1.0, evaluate what courses of action they could take, and then plan on how to implement it.. and only started working on 2.0' proper - development and one would assume engine/technicalshit/etc around April last year. (all this is taken from their 2.0 outline btw).

so all in all, its probably only been 16 months since 2.0 was formally put in motion. very fast indeed.

Assuming Wyrm-Odem is Dragonfire Dive, it had a five second cooldown in the video as well.

Dunno, I wouldn't count on some of those cooldowns to be official. I'm sure they're tweaked so he can show 'em off during the demo.
Either way, looks great. Is it weird that I'm excited about playing mouse/keyboard? I mean in current version I can't stand it so I use the FFXIV gamepad.... But I plan on playing 2.0 with keyboard and mouse.

Yeah, some of that could be customized for demonstration purposes.. absolutely shouldn't take anything as official.

Also, to someone else who posted about latency, one of their press interviews confirmed the server was in Japan.

I like what I've seen from 2.0 thus far but my excitement is tempered. I would say its naive to think this is the greatest MMO ever just based off a video, I actually believe the "purist FF online player" is going to hate 2.0 because to me, it looks a lot like HD WoW(which isn't a bad thing to me).

So what would a "purist FF online player" like? The reasons why I don't like WoW are due to story reasons and my characters are stuck on one job.
I like FF games because there the character grows and develops. The story is arguably one of the stronger points (which I don't know if 2.0 will bring to the table but if it's 2 things Square manages to get right it's the story and the cutscenes).

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just curious. Are you saying the interface looks HQ WoW? Or the graphics?

So you also think it's ridiculous that iOS6 is in beta right now? iOS has been in development since the beginning of the iPhone, the 6th revision of the OS is in beta right now.

But that's not even a new engine for that OS.

FFXIV 2.0 is an entirely new engine and client. If we're going to allow Apple to call that a beta, I see no problem with calling this a pre-alpha. Especially since they don't even have all the classes working in the new engine yet.

I for one support Celeras completely. After what SE pulled, they deserve no benefit of the doubt. Maybe the mods should make a thread for white knighting fanboism, and another thread for real talk ass pounding.

I just wanna point out the Wandering Minstrel NPC is modeled after Yoshida. Now that the Yellowjacket has replaced him because all goob things must come to an end, the Yellowjacket will imprison you for believing blindly in the Minstrel.

This is obviously a message that XIV players should be more skeptical.

I think one of the bigger misconceptions is that all of this new stuff for lv50 folks to do, this flood of new content for 2.0, is sort of a farce. They've already said that Crystal Tower and free companies won't be at 2.0 launch, and PvP may not be either. By extension, that would mean Primal hunts/HNM? stuff for free companies may not be around either. What does that leave to do? Well, new job leveling maybe, but that's about it from what we know. That "new" dungeon was Tam-Tara, so lol at whoever said that bullshit.

I just met you and this is crazy, I added nothing so pay me.
