Has SE said what they are doing with the market wards in v2 yet? They're making me rage right now, there's barely any free slots in the whole of Ul'dah. I just went through every ward and they were all full, I even struggled to find a free stall and those are annoying because you're forced to maintain them every 24 hours or your retainer disappears. Not much good when I'm going on holiday for two weeks at the weekend. Yeah yeah I could park my retainer in Gridania's but that's like opening a shop on Mars.

You'd think such a fundamental part of the game would have had a temp fix by now. I mean it wouldn't be too hard to open #2 wards for each category, or get rid of categories altogether and open a new one when the wards fill since item search and full wards make the categories a bit useless.

Hopefully there is an auction house in V2 from launch. No one seems to be asking these kinds of questions in interviews.

I think they only mentioned an overhaul, nothing more.

It may take some longer than others, but eventually everyone saw XIV for what it was (and only the truly idiotic didn't). I don't care for everyone on the forums, but I at least give them some benefit of the doubt. And I only do that because I have (and see) no reason to doubt yet. It's just fluff we're seeing from afar. We can't touch it or look at it properly, why spend so much energy being critical over something like that? There's a time and a place for that shit, and it isn't now.
You, yourself, were never critical back then. You simply were not. You were overly-excited and gave -me- shit for being objective about it; for calling out flaws and, most importantly, for accurately recognizing (and adamantly voicing) that if certain flaws were not changed, that the game would flop.

    And they were not.

    And it did.

And many of you were mad about it.

So why don't we try this another way this time, so that history does not repeat itself? Why don't we all acknowledge that the game looks much, much, MUCH better, and why don't we all agree on how excited we are that alpha/beta is coming out, but why don't we all acknowledge that if they fail to listen to the legitimate complaints/concerns of the testers, that the game will not reach its full potential. Tanaka listened to very little, and this will be his ultimate shame. Yoshi has a chance to listen, and if he does, I firmly believe that this game will be successful.

Your words, Elcura, could be taken the other way: "We can't touch it or look at it properly, why spend so much energy getting excited over something like that?" Should I then treat you as an over-optimist?

@Kisada: Its cute to hear you talk about the fact that Hyan and the fanatics are no more. You're a nice poster, and I respect your posts, but I remember you being pretty resilient to changes back then as well. Does that mean you've seen the light? Seen the logic?

Eh.. You do know that the majority of testers (early on) are going to be current players... and the brunt of their feedback is going to be complaints that X legitimate and fully functioning mechanic is not as good as it was in 1.0 (where it was awful) cause anything that looks like WoW is deemed terrible. Example: People on OF are now complaining about backpedaling as opposed to running backwards fulls peed.

Yoshida plays MMO so he seems to know better than the idiots on the OF, but if he does start taking that criticism to heart the game will become worse.

I'll personally complain about everything I feel could/should be better if I get into alpha or beta. But for a pre-alpha gameplay video? lol.

The best thing I've seen regarding this is from the ol' 2.0 outline.
    • Complete redesign of markets into a system incorporating retainers and auction house elements. Planned for version 2.0.
What that means, I don't know.

Also the guys that put out that initial shaky cam video went back to redeem themselves with this HD video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwenut2xit8

Best quality I've seen and the best angle too. No shaky cam, looks like they brought a tripod and zoomed in from the back.

Then he should also know that most of the criticism on the OFs for most mmos aren't worth looking into. I'm sure he will stick to the official feedback stuff on the support page and the unofficial forums for a better idea of what they need to improve. The fact that they give shoutouts to BG now and then proves they know where to look if they want real feedback and not borderline troll nitpicking.

Perhaps its because my latest beta memories are fresh from Arenanet handling GW2, which was done the right way, but I disagree. Despite the fact that the core fans of 1.0 are blithering idiots that wouldn't know MMO concepts if they were run over by them, a great many of us gave Tanaka good ideas to work with for that trainwreck that was 1.0, and he failed to listen. Had he listened to even 10% of us, things might have been a little different.

Even GW2 was a bit rough when we got our hands on it during the beta. After taking feedback from players, the game has gotten even better. Every version of the beta had a few tweaks here and there that were taken straight from testers, and the game improved as a whole because of it.

I simply don't see the point, outside of drumming up hype and PR, of why you'd announce and hold a beta if you are planning on taking 0% of what the testers are saying, to heart. You're better off just saving money, launching the game dry, and taking your lumps.

Even if Yoshida plays MMOs and even if he knows things in and out, no one person can think of everything. If you listened to what he said about those who made 1.0, none of them played WoW. We can presume that if they didn't play WoW, they didn't play EQ2, Warhammer, LotL:O, AOC, Rift, or any of the others that have come out since XI. This means he has nobody on his staff that has played "Western" games aside from himself. He cannot think of every right thing to do in every situation. You need credible feedback.

I don't share your optimism if he simply decided to hold a beta to "appease" us, then launches the game without taking any feedback to heart, much less applying it.

If things go as you say, then any hopes of platforming elements are going out the window, and jump will remain just "something to do".

Obviously you don't listen to everything, otherwise he'd turn 2.0 back into 1.0 from listening to the mouthbreathers on the OF, but to take nothing and "stay the course"? That's foolish at best and dangerous at worse.

Ok that's just bullshit. I was critical when there was need to be critical, and you were being critical for whatever reasons you were being critical. We bumped heads a lot, but I dunno how you got the impression I wasn't critical back then. That I wasn't critical when I didn't know anything about the game, or that I wasn't absolutely cynical when Yoshi-P came aboard (because guess what, I wanted to wait and see and guess what? So far my patience has paid off).

You seem to think that wait and see means that you can't be critical. I was well aware of the problems, but what does constantly harping on them on a forum that's so disconnected from SE I might as well be shouting these complaints aloud in my room? You note this shit once, maybe twice, and maybe again when someone needs to be corrected, but after that do you really need to tell people the same shit at every turn? No. At least, I didn't. If that confused you then my bad. If someone said something I agree about, I don't always post to echo their statement because who fucking cares if I agree with them?

I dunno what crawled up your ass and died, but I sure as hell didn't put it there. I wasn't mad, I saw this shit coming. I liked watching the train wreck. It was educational and spectacular and I liked watching the turn around, it was also good.

My stance to this is my stance 2 years ago when XIV was in alpha, beta and post-beta. Wait and see, get more information, get some hands on time and decide. Excitement, skepticism and all this shit is all well and good, but past certain degrees it just becomes a waste of time and energy (kinda like arguing with you, but this is more fun than deconstructing some video). Treat me however the fuck you see me, that's all I ever do

Not gonna bother looking for a quote, but I'm almost sure I remember Yoshida saying in an interview that the first thing he did when they decided on 2.0 was to ask the staff to start playing a bunch of western MMOs or something like that.

Not that I disagree with your post and I'm not saying a few months of playing other MMOs in your free time equates to that much, but it's worth noting that he's not completely alone now.

I was just about to post the same thing. He made them play those games so everyone on the team now has a better sense of what's going on in other mmos.

Obviously, it would have been a shorter period than some would like, but you can't say they don't have a clue anymore.

The guy really has vision. That was a really great move and it will pay off in some way. Of course there will be those OF-tards that think that's a horrible idea, but does anyone really care about them anyway? >.>

In the latest interview Yoshida said that before he took over no one on the staff had played WoW/anything after it so he made them play the game for a few weeks so they can understand what's changed since they made XI.

@Grey Yeah man. Yoshida is definitely the young mind that SE needs right now. Takes what makes the series great and memorable and gives it a new spin. I'd say hes sort of the similar to Tetsuya Nomura back when FFVI/FFVII were being developed.

Still waiting for a full battle write-up or Arcanist details or something. I keep coming back to this thread and I get pretty pictures and clearer videos of shit I knew earlier on. I mean, fine, we're not getting as much info as I expected, but I feel like we should have an info thread and a bullshit thread like for the dev comments.
