WAR has had the best pvp of any mmo I've ever played. If they can even remotely making something close to what war had then they've probably got my subscription for life.

They know you can use keyboard and mouse on ps3 right? Can't really think of a reason why they would restrict it to just controller UI.
I fucking hate pvp in any game yet I love RVR in WAR. Shit now I want to resub my old account.
The game is being set up to be transferable to next gen consoles, so it shouldn't be a viable excuse for them in the way it was for XI.
As long as they support the PS3 game content will be limited to the lowest common denominator.
They seem to be keen on not limiting the capabilities of the PC client, which is good, but as far as the actual content goes it will always be limited to what the PS3 can handle.
This. WAR was a pretty terrible game overall but some of the features were amazing.. RVR and scenario PVP were both amazing and I really loved the Public Quest system, back when people played the game. They eventually became impossible to complete because you couldn't do them alone and no one else played (or no one was at the level to do them anymore), but still.
What made WAR's RvR different from any other PvP?
War was also more focused on piling everyone together. One thing I don't enjoy about a lot of battlegrounds in other mmos was the idea of just sneaking around and trying to avoid people. WAR made it a mosh pile of constant fighting as many people as possible, which was a lot of fun imo.
plus punting people into the fire
as well as castle sieges were a lot of fun. One day my guild spend 14 hours defending a keep so the opposite side couldn't get into our city. Was fun as shit.
granted I think some of the appeal were the class abilities so dunno how that would translate well. I've noticed a lot of newer mmos have started copying the BGs from WAR (rift especially).
tbh, if you are curious, I think WAR is f2p until 20, from 10-20 you can try some of the BGs just to see what they're like.
(admittedly, I enjoy zerg vs. zerg as long as it isn't everything. WAR's downfall was it was ONLY pvp, and too many kiddies can't handle that)
^ Did they ever fix the White Lion class? I was so hyped for that class as what I thought Dragoon should have been in XI, but then I found out that it was horribly underpowered with shoddy pet AI.
Made me a sad panda.
It was sadly underpowered, but there was nothing funnier during a zerg rush to see them jumping all over the fucking place.
This seems to have some (albeit little) new information (unless Stan chose to omit from his other cliff notes). Gold Saucer is six months~ one year from launch and I think it's implying Crystal Tower at launch, but I can't tell. Whatever this means:
http://remoon.blog15.fc2.com/blog-entry-22373.htmlImplementation of the "Crystal Tower" will launch simultaneously with the target. Some players of level 50, so, if I someone to be their first target.
I had a mid level witch character, In the PVP I could sneak around and choose to fight only guys that I was good against. My skills were such that I could buff myself to avoid things, and that when I was engaged with someone else the fight was longer than 10 seconds. In WoW it was like.. BAM here is someone to kill you, HIT THE RIGHT BUTTON.. not fast enough -- you're dead! Same with Everquest where I first learned that I'm not a big fan of pvp.
So yes, this is me personally being excited about the potential direction, perhaps more contemporary pvpers will not be quite as happy.
