Wow... I guess that FIFA drawing simulator above knows a thing or two about how FIFA fucks with the USA.

We beat Germany in a friendly earlier this year.
And I imagine we're chomping at the bit to finally settle the score with Ghana.
This isn't your 2010 USMNT.
I mean, I look forward to conquering the Group of Death.

Yeah, you guys are fucked.
We get an OK group, but we can't afford to be 2nd or it's Germany in the knockout stage, so we have to beat Russia, which won't be that easy.
USA's group will be very challenging, for sure. I'm actually interested to see how a lot of these groups play out. I've always been a huge fan of Mexico so I'm encouraged by their grouping. The only real threat is Brazil, and Mexico has done well against them in the past. Then again, anything can happen.![]()
Looking forward to this.
Yeah you beat like Germany's C team. Good luck with that again at the world cup.

Germany didn't have Ozil, Khedira, Muller, Schweinstiger to name a few of their biggest players...
I do believe US has a decent chance of breaking the Ghana curse and potentially upsetting Portugal though... maybe...
Yeah it sucks. Had it been any other group of death I'd love to root for the USA but they're going up against my team![]()
buncha TRADERS in this thread!
Mexico? Germany? wtf is this shit???
I'm not even American so whatever bro.
TRADER
Spoiler: show
I hope youre being sarcastic or ironic or w.e with trader >.>
Someone hasn't kept up with the baseball thread.
Anyway, US is screwed, etc. I'll still be in Korea when the world cup goes down, and SK got a pretty easy group. I'm excited to see what it's like during the world cup while being in a country that actually cares about it's national soccer team.
You guys think the U.S. is fucked, the Aussies got Spain, Netherlands, and Chile lol.
ROBBEN GON DO IT BITCHEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
calling it now, spain chokes against chile, draws dutch, doesn't make it out of group
I'm not a fan of international rankings at all.
Australia is the lowest ranked overall, and that's probably accurate but... the other 3 consist of 2 of the most dominant international teams ever and a 3rd that's playing as well as just about anybody lately. Netherlands being 9 is pretty harsh for their bad euro group play considering how they obliterated everything in the run up to it, and their utter domination of qualifying for this WC since.
So my mini-analysis:
Australia has the toughest path to getting out of group, but they hold down the group's overall strength.
Costa Rica is in almost exactly the same situation as Australia, there's no way in hell they get out between England, Uruguay, and Italy. But again they drag the overall down.
Purely by rankings the US's group is probably the highest overall.
Betting odds are where things get interesting. If you take out the bottom teams (ghana is 150 to 1, australia is 300 to 1, Costa rica is 1000 to 1), this is what you get for overall:
Uruguay (25) + England (25) + Italy (25) = 75 to 1
Germany (6.5) + Portugal (33) + USA (100) = 139.5 to 1
Spain (7) + Netherlands (25) + Chile (40) = 72 to 1
Every other group has at least a couple teams that are 100-200+ each.
So yeah... the people that literally make their living directly as a result of their predictions have all 3 "groups of death" pretty damn likely to produce a winner. The gap between the US's group and the next best chance is much much farther than between any of those 3.
They also have #10 ranked Brasil as the most likely to win at 3/1, followed by #3 ranked Argentina at 5/1, then #2 ranked Germany at 6.5/1, then #1 ranked spain at 7 to 1... and then the next is #11 Belgium at 14/1, followed by #19 France at 18/1...
So that tells you what they think about the rankings, heh.
Also, I think it's a really hard call on what's tougher between the groups with 3 great teams and the groups with 4. Yeah, you have one tougher game with all 4, but at the same time if you fuck up aginst England/Uruguay/Italy/Spain/Dutch/Chile... there is no praying for Australia or Costa Rica to knock off one of the bigs to save your ass. You finish one of your 2 hard games below a draw, you're fucked.
US's group could easily have a 2-1-0 or 1-1-1 winner.
It's gonna be hard to advance from the other 2 without at least getting to 2-0-1. Although I guess just the math of the thing makes 2-1-0 have a decent chance to advance, just not likely to win group unless everyone else is drawing multiples.
MLS Cup tied late on ESPN something, pretty exciting stuff.
