Eh. Fucking Argentina.
Eh. Fucking Argentina.
"Messi has to win the WC" bandwagon is actually started and used by the anti-Messi people mostly. People have been claiming that he was successful thanks to Xavi Iniesta only, that he has never been successful with the national team, etc.
Honestly, I just want him to shut them up. If it was Argentina - Holland in the final I would definitely cheer for Holland but since I am neutral towards both, I think I'll side with Argentina.
Was a weird game. I get people saying nothing happened but it was just a closed match. A bit lame to see Argentina get this far with this kind of game (kudos to them though) because it's not really that great to watch. I hope Germany can get Argentina to open up. Also Messi to shine vs Germany would be awesome, I know we all expect him to be Pele 2.0 but he's doing fine imo, nothing exceptional. Mascherano is more important to Argentina than Messi imo.
If there is logic left in this world cup, Germany should win 3-0 or 4-1 on sunday.
But i feel the final will be decided in PK's.

Netherlands don't give a fuck about 3rd place.
Also I have fond memories of the last time Germany and Argentina played in the WC. Let's have a repeat please!
And that would be unfair, too, but that's the luck of the draw and ending up opposite the host.
There's also a significant difference between going on 2 days rest vs a team on 3 and going on 3 days rest vs a team on 4.
Netherlands has played 2 120 minute games in the last week, I'm not sure if he can manage it all the way but it'll be close to 0 starters on the field.
Van Gaal is right, so useless game.
He's really not. 3rd place can mean the world to teams that don't usually make it very far in the tournament. Like Sweden in 1994, South Korea in 2002, etc.
Also the game tends to be more enjoyable than the final because the players aren't under as much pressure and the goals tend to fly. Although I imagine Brazil will be under a lot of pressure this time around.
Aside from baseball, none of these are even close to the mark.
ESPN doesn't understand statistical variation.
Pretty sure they felt desperate trying to tell how incredible this result is, similar to how they label every big football event as "superbowl of soccer", whether it is CL final, WC final, EC final, etc.
More than that it comes down to how they played in the tourneys.
This WC should really give a great appreciation for performances like Maradona's in 86, and even like Robben in 2010. So many really, really great players just didn't manage more than 1 or 2 moments of brilliance this entire tourney.
Also, 4th place gets $20 million and 3rd place gets $22 million. That money doesn't all go to the players, but they will get a bigger paycheck for placing higher.
