Well, that sucked. The worst thing is, when they announced the team, I said, why the fuck would you pick Wondo over Donovan? All Wondo does is shank goals in the WC, did it before, did it again today. Fuck Wondolowski because he puts that easy shit in, US moves on.

As for the stoppage time rant; I just think the refs need to do a better job at recording it. 5m in the Portugal game was 1-2m too much in most people's opinion. 1m tonight was too little. No, an extra 1-2m doesn't usually matter but when a team is pounding away like the US was tonight, who knows what could happen in that extra couple mins. Clearly that extra time helped Portugal against us.

Everything Ty said is true about the current state of soccer. I just happen to agree with archi that a clock running when play is stopped and teams can take forever to set up throws, free kicks, corners, etc and also writhe on the ground, it's fucking stupid and puts the end of every game in the hands of the ref.

yes, it's saves and blocks where the numbers were confused, although I'm not entirely sure what the difference is

I know to be a save the ball has to be going into the goal otherwise, I'm guessing blocks is the stat for when it wasn't going in; it's possible though that a save is when they actually have to go after the ball as opposed to a ball that's kicked directly at them being a block.


i.e. howard pushed one over the top that wasn't going in, that's not a save, I'm assuming that's a block

Blocks are usually for like corners and free kicks and crosses across the net that get punched out, where saves are shots at the net.

so a few examples then

shot that's going into the goal and is stopped = save

shot that's not going into the goal or posing other danger and is deflected away, say the howard tip over the bar = nothing

shot that's not going into the goal, but has an attacker there to clean it up, but is deflected away = block

corner kick/cross that's not bending into the net but is close in so the keeper goes and grabs or punches or kicks it or anything = block

corner kick/cross that was actually going to go into the goal, even by accident, but is stopped = save
