Needed Thief for Ninja in Tactics as well.
They can't do 1class=job forever. It just isn't feasible. Not too much of a stretch to think later on that some jobs would be required to unlock others. Thief->Ninja is a fair thought.
I thought FFXIV was going for the class = new name (i.e. Rogue/Ronin), job = dat FF feeeeeeel (i.e. Thief/Ninja).
I'd rather see Thief stand out, rather than just being "oh, screw that, it's a class".
That's not even the point.
The point is that classes are under-utilized and generally ignored in favour of jobs. THF being the base class shafts people who like THF for what it is. The base class needs to be original while the jobs coming off it could be THF and NIN.
Also, let's try to remember that every Final Fantasy game is the same. Yeah, nothing changes.
Oh, someone gets it.
It was wild speculation! i didnt have to think it through. I understand your point about Thief though, especially considering its popularity (and usefulness) in FFXI. The classes might be quite different in 2.0 though and hopefully relevant to content. I would personally find it annoying if every job from 11 was made with an initial sub class.

The biggest problem with all of the class/job combos we all want to daydream about is the fucking armory system where your class completely depends on what is in your main hand. It needs to be streamlined/overhauled big time.
Thief/Rogue/etc. is going to need those daggers pulled out of GLA's arsenal... or it's going to have to be a separate "dirk" class or something.
Jobs at the moment can't have a weapon class separate from their base class without some convoluted "equip-class-weapon > set-job > change-main-weapon" bullshit.
I think this would make some sense... maybe... I don't know. One class one job does seem kind of lame....

Relics are actually jobs only and put u directly on the job once u equip it so the system is already in place to handle that.

Yes.
If you're on whm and equip a Bravura, you automatically job changed to War.
You can't downgrade to class as the relic doesn't support it so a class weapon is still nice to have for certain classes, mainly THM.
I wonder: if you're on a job and equip a class weapon does the reverse happen.
^ and it goes deeper than just switching weapons once you're on a job.
Jobs inherit the abilities of their class, it's not at all feasible for most jobs to branch off current classes inheriting all of their base skills and have things still make sense nor is it worthwhile to implement do-nothing base classes for every job.
The system needs a redesign or we'll be seeing a lot fewer new jobs than we'd hope or they'll be a logistical cluster fuck of retrofits and/or redundancies.
these classes sound awesome o:
This game better have BLU or it won't survive imo. As far as Summoner, I hope it has more DPS options than it did in XI.
