ex-gf did internship in CA years ago for NASA and got to visit a SpaceX campus, told me just how cult like and crazy it was there and how so many people were "Elon this, Elon that" during the tour. Much like Tesla, only way his shit keeps working is due to huge government subsidies while he runs his mouth about being a capitalism genius and how nothing was handed to him.

Tesla has been at it for 8 years now in earnest and has produced 5 (arguably 4 without the cybertruck) models of vehicles with an irregular model year strategy that basically doesn't exist and makes their cars super hard to repair. So they are kind of playing on easy mode and still having scaling/QA issues.

I wonder how many normal car manufacturers have released a comparable number of EV models.

Chevy has the Bolt, Bolt EUV, EV Blazer, EV Equinox, and EV Silverado

Mercedes has the EQB, EQS sedan, EQS SUV, and EQE, as well as the discontinued B-class.

BMW has the i4, i5, i7 and iX

Kia and Hyundai motor group have a bunch.

Of course in America the Model 3 alone outsells all models combined from any other automaker though

(and the Model Y has almost double the sales of the Model 3)

btw there's apparently a Car Wash mode on Tesla cybertrucks...and if you don't put your car into car wash mode it voids the 100k warranty Also you can't wash it in the sunlight.

Price range on all the BMW/Mercedes make it out of scope for average people, same with almost all EV to be honest which is why the Model 3 has sold so much and the Bolt was a great car, but the charging super slow on it.

Also all of those rely on the shit infrastructure that is either Electrify America, or attempting to find a charging station via random apps that still exists and works (super fun just rolling the dice and hoping you don't get stranded in places!). My ioniq5 charges like a mother fucker (20% to 80% within 25-30min)...IF I can find a charger and IF said charger is working at even 60% of it's advertised rate....and IF said charger doesn't have a bunch of fucking Bolts plugged in charging crazy slow lol

China has the Dolphin coming I think to EU markets finally. $20k-30k EV. I think the reviews have all be decent on it. Doubt it will ever make it here to US without a crazy traffic driving price up a ton.

BYD has vehicles priced all across the spectrum, including a new model that's just under $10,000. Everyone else is panicking.

I mean BYD would be one of the few manufactures with worse quality assurance then Tesla at the moment.

Not going to drive very far without needing a charge on a car that price either, given how much of the total cost is just the battery itself.
Probably fine for people living in a small town that never venture out of it I guess. Have fun in a city if you get stuck in rush hour traffic though.

A cheap work commute car that saves you hundreds a month in comparison to an ice isn't a bad deal tbh

EVs are actually amazing at standstill rush hour traffic. Driving down regular highway at 50-70mph you battery drain for 30mins might be like 12-15% or so depending on variables. Sitting in traffic and slowly going 5mph or so until you cover that same distance and you probably used 8-13%. Only issue ever is "Well shit i'm at low battery and now stuck in traffic, this could get bad" but that's the same as "I didn't get gas and now i'm stuck in fucking traffic" with the upside to ICE being "I can just take this off ramp and 90% chance there's a gas station"

This is why the Bolt and Leaf were so great and people still love them. You only have enough charge to really drive to work, drive home and maybe run to the store before you charge it. But you charge it up in your garage and gtg the next day. Just not for road trips. If i'm buying a BYD EV i'm not looking for leather seats or premium quality, it's like buying jeans at Old Navy. You know they're gonna probably rot out after a year..but they're also only $20 and I need jeans right now.

More people at Tesla get the ax.

None of this bodes well for Tesla's future. Good luck pushing thru the $58b compensation package.

Yup, some people they axed were sleeping in their cars because they were so hardcore Tesla. Turns out the company doesn't give a fucking shit about you no matter your devotion! (This applies to every single company)

Darn. Incidentally, I finally saw one the other day. They are probably the only idiot in east TN / western NC with one of them. I guess they didn't hear about the recall.
