They know exactly who they're marketing their cars to.
They certainly did their market research. I have never seen a car company in tune with what their customers want.

Tesla's autopilot fails to read/register a trailer, again, this time it's fatal for the driver.
Oh shit
We discussed this a bit in the Grocery store thread I think.
Looks like Tesla missed their Q2 output projection. Their target was 17,000 units but they were only able to produce 14,370. Looks like they might miss their 80k goal this year.

Also did anyone put a deposit down on the Model 3 cause apparently there is a way to find out where you are in line on the mytesla page by looking at the HTML code lol.
OH NO THEY'RE GOING UNDER
Thanks for the clarification. I knew they ramped up production especially on the Model X's since they appeared to resolve most of the quality issues with the FWDs so that number seemed a bit low.
Edit: Just found the press release directly from Tesla. The deliveries were 9,745 for the Model S and 4,625 for the Model X while 5150 cars were in transit which will count towards Q3 deliveries.

Tesla recently toured some media around the gigafactory to pimp their progress. Two years into construction, the project is 2 years ahead of schedule. Production capacity planned for 2020 may now be 2018. Tesla itself is building the massive lozenge-shaped factory, acting as its own general contractor.
As cool as all that is, I'm waiting on them to convert to one of the new battery techs. Lithium is great for energy storage but it's a horrible element to need mass quantities of.
And I'm supremely jealous of your model 3.
Apparently all preorders got the gift, but those who ordered in store at launch day got theirs first. As far as battery tech Tesla is shifting to different form factor for the Model 3 from the 18650's (18mm wide 65mm tall) to the new 21700 (21mm wide 70mm tall) which will also be using a different kind of chemistry.
Here is a picture showing the size of the new batteries
