Greatest crossover event ever.
Greatest crossover event ever.
Fucking Peter Daou. Lame.
Actually just the opposite, I love a company that hoards cash for purchases instead of relying strictly on debt offerings to finance acquisitions and day-to-day operations.

Uber's code disables the emergency braking. Details leading up to the crash released.
Investigators with the federal agency determined that the car's detection systems, including radar and laser instruments, observed a woman walking her bicycle across the road roughly six seconds before impact — likely enough time, in other words, for a vehicle driving 43 mph to brake and avoid fatally injuring the woman.
But it did not immediately identify the woman as a human pedestrian. Instead, the agency said, "as the vehicle and pedestrian paths converged, the self-driving system software classified the pedestrian as an unknown object, as a vehicle, and then as a bicycle with varying expectations of future travel path."
It was not until 1.3 seconds before impact that the car's self-driving system "determined that an emergency braking maneuver was needed to mitigate a collision," NTSB explained. Investigators added that the driver, who was alone in the car and survived without injuries, intervened less than a second before the crash and only began to brake after the impact.
The agency explained that the vehicle, a modified 2017 Volvo XC90, comes "factory equipped" with automatic emergency braking — but that Uber's system disables this function and others when it's in use.
I mean, it's not surprising that an automated system had a hard time classifying "woman pushing loaded shopping cart" in its algorithm. Edge cases like that are always going to be a challenge for automation.
Listen man, apparently it's the most popular thing to say on BG these days so I gotta take it real srs.

Kind of cool, Bloomberg has a model to estimate weekly Model 3 production. The model shows roughly 2,800 a week being produced right now.

Elon's skill was in creating a cult of personality and turning it into massive amounts of funding for other people's ideas, but it looks like he's abandoning that strategy.
It isn't like he'll be gone tomorrow, but this is a bad way to go anyway.

Didn't realize Tesla was so strapped for cash.

They shouldn’t be strapped for cash after today. All US and Canadian model 3 reservations opened up for configuration which requires a $2500 non refundable deposit. The delivery timeline is still 3-5 months out depending on what you ordered, but that’s still going to bring in a lot of cash. I haven’t pulled the trigger myself because I don’t know which config I want... performance version is very tempting...
Don't pay a premium for performance, even the base model is sub-6 0-60 and that torque will snap your neck.

Yeah I can't justify an $11k upgrade for a 1.0 second faster 0-60. Sticking with the dual motor order. There is a mad rush to get orders in before July 1st because all orders before that date will get Premium LTE connectivity forever. Any order after July 1st will get a year of Premium LTE for free, and then it's most likely $100/year otherwise you get downgraded to standard cellular which only gives you basic google maps with directions(no satellite view or green/red traffic lines) and no internet radio. Also no OTA updates via LTE unless it's a safety update or you are connected to WiFi.
^You probably already know this. But I thought you might find this article useful.
https://techcrunch.com/2018/06/28/te...-reservations/Tesla also lowered prices for the dual motor and performance variants. The new pricing will be retroactively applied to customers who have already placed their orders, according to the company. The dual-motor long-range battery Model 3 now starts at $53,000, a price reduction of $1,000. The base performance version is now priced at $64,000, down from $78,000, thanks to Tesla making many of the premium features into optional upgrades.
This rules.
Nissan's Leaf-brand Electric Car Charges Slower & Gets Less Range Per Charge than Advertisedhttps://www.bbc.com/news/business-44575399Last year, Nissan told prospective buyers that using so-called rapid chargers should only take 40 minutes "in moderate driving conditions" for an 80% charge.
There appears to be no problem with the first two charges on any given day - one at home, and then the first rapid charge en route.
It is only when drivers come to charge for the third time - or the second rapid charge - that some have said they face long waits.
John Weatherley, a company director from the Forest of Dean, loves his Nissan Leaf.
But when he made a 300 mile journey to the Lake District, he found himself waiting for a total of two-and-a-half hours when he stopped to charge for a second time.
Mr Pitcairn was also disappointed by the range of the new Leaf, which he bought specifically for long journeys.
His marketing brochure claimed the car could do 235 miles on a single charge.
But having bought the car, he found the range was actually 155 miles.
"So we have, in my mind, been misled twice, because the claimed range on a full charge is not 235 miles. Secondly, nowhere does it say that you will only be able to rapid charge in 40 minutes only once."
