I do a 40 mile commute to/from work each way with a model 3 and was fine during last week's cold weather with temperature in the teens.

They just price-dropped it another $1,100 a couple days ago, on top of the $2000 price drop at the start of the year (to make up for losing $3750 in federal rebates).

was gonna say. 60% of a lot is still a lot.

this isn't really a surprise to anyone from a region that sees these temps often. it's pretty obvious when you go out to start your car in sub-zero temps that the battery is not as effective as it is at higher temps. Though it's nice to have some firm data.

The solution is, I think, two-fold: continue to improve on battery efficiency, because duh. And continue to build infrastructure. Electric vehicles, if they had the support infrastructure gas cars do, could have been viable for the last 30 years. Battery low > pull in to convenience store > swap batteries. Leave your depleted batteries on the charger, drive off with full ones. Be even faster than the superchargers. Of course, this depends on battery standardization. But we're early enough in the process that could be done.

Nobody is going to do battery swaps. Too large, too heavy, too expensive, too integrated into the car's frame.

Not to mention standardization, of course.

People in Sweden and Switzerland are basically saying "yeah, whatever it's fine" with their electric vehicles.

Tesla released their 35k Model 3 a couple days ago, and slashed prices on all models. The price cuts on the mid-range version more than make up for the loss of half the federal credit since the first of the year.

They're also closing a bunch of showrooms.

Not anymore because the they were locked into multi-year leases for a lot of those stores and were facing a lawsuit for breaking the lease early so they had to reverse their decision. Also, the discounted AP/FSD prices for activation after the purchase which is currently $2k/$3k is going to go back to its original pricing sometime on or after 3/17. This is due to the massive fallout from customers who are upset that they paid full price for these features, especially the vaporware FSD while others were getting it at a discount. I pulled the trigger and got the discounted AP/EAP combo the other day for $5k since it will be around $10-11k next week.

And in other news the Model Y was unveiled last night... not a bad looking car and that pano roof makes me a bit jealous lol.

The model Y has a 7 seater config that they showed off last night, but not available to order until 2021 lol.

Probably not going to setup the lines for that config until that time. Easier if all configs interior wise are similar I guess.

The 3rd row looks so cramped that I wouldn't want that option anyway. The Model Y looks perfect for me (higher seat, hatchback), but it's not different enough from the 3 for me to want to trade in my 3 in a couple years.

How you mfers end up buying/financing/leasing these things there aren't many options on their site except for 800/month payments lmao.

Always get a 3rd party loan offer before talking to the dealer, even with Tesla.

But yeah, a 50k vehicle is going to have high payments.

All the options seemed through Tesla and online only that's why I thought they only offered like 2500 down and crazy monthly payments.

Went thru my Credit Union because I believe Tesla goes thru US Bank. My rate was much lower than what was advertised in the configurator as an estimate. I also started saving the moment I put my deposit down so I had about 2.5 years saved up to put about 20% down including deposit and order fee.
