They will almost certainly not site their next North American auto plant in California, but I haven't seen anything suggesting they are closing the Fremont plant.

It'd be pretty crazy to close down their plant completely to move somewhere else inside the same country. I can see them downsizing it, but straight up closure? Elon would have to be rly rly mad

They would most likely keep the factory open while they build a new one as it usually takes anywhere from 12-18 months for them to build one. Should they close Freemont, they could easily make the money back on tax incentives plus paying the employees would be cheaper in Texas due to no personal income tax and the lower cost of living. So labor become cheaper, shipping to the east coast becomes easier, and production cost goes down. Some analyst have calculated that cars would cost 10-20% less to make if they move to Texas. Whether those savings get passed onto the customer is anyone's guess.

No, but they can keep working towards that sub 30k price range on a new entry model

Fremont is going to stay open and enact cost reductions 5 years down the road at the earliest. The Bobs will come in once a TX or NV factory gets fully online and "lean out" the fat from Fremont once they hit Tesla's production metrics across all factories nationwide.

I don't even think Tesla ever hit their desired monthly car production goal as far as I remember.

Nope, they haven't. Even if they got Texas online say 18 months from now, it would probably be at least a minimum of 1-2 years with both plants running at full capacity before they will hit their numbers. So yeah, Fremont isn't going away any time soon. At most, it may just get scaled back because in the eyes of the rich, fuck union workers.

There is some union dealings though due to the fall out from when the previous tenants (believe it was a combo Toyota/chevy) left that involved Tesla having to rehire a portion of the laid off work force, along with some benefits/pay in exchange for them not having official union representation

Tomorrow is the launch of the first manned mission of the Dragon capsule to the ISS. Coverage begins on NASA's site at 12pm EST. Launch is scheduled for 4:33pm. I don't even know if it's going to be on TV or not.

The article suggests that having the plant open is causing the virus to spread within the company.

Looks like Austin might be the location of a second Tesla plant if they can give Tesla the tax breaks they are looking for. If it goes through, they will start building 3rd Quarter of this year

Yeah, I remember Toyota experimenting with this where the solar roof of the prius powered the AC. Added a ridiculous cost to the car with minimal benefit.
